This new salon space in a prime Palm Beach location is just what colorist power couple Reyad and Kylie Williard Fritas wanted for their second salon outside New York City (the first is at the St. Regis Aspen). The duo behind the Suite Reyad salon in midtown Manhattan, known for their meticulously applied balayage highlights, have colored the hair of Nina Garcia, Apple Martin and Madison Headrick. “Everyone wants comfort, but most importantly clients like intimacy,” explains Fritas. “Especially when you spend a few hours having your hair done.” Fritas, who worked for many big salons in the past, wanted to move away from the stark, anonymous salons of yore with many chairs and too many people buzzing around. “We love servicing a new market while also getting to see a lot of our New York City clients on vacation,” says Williard Fritas, who specializes in balayage. The salon will also sell the brand’s eponymous product line. The duo have created five products: The Shampoo and The Conditioner, each available for fine and normal hair and thick and coarse hair, and The Cure, a pack of six weekly booster serums for dry or damaged hair.

“I’ve always loved jewelry and accessorizing, but in the last decade, as the trend towards dainty jewelry became more popular, I found it unaffordable to collect in a way that made any sort of statement,” explains Courtney Leidy of Courtney Leidy Jewelry. “One dainty bracelet that cost thousands didn’t make an impact unless it was stacked with five more dainty bracelets. I was always drawn to more substantial pieces, and it was this gap in the market that fueled my desire to design.” Leidy and her family left New York two years ago for the Sunshine State, but for years prior, she spent time in the Diamond District to learn the art of wax carving and jewelry design. “I spent many years exploring ideas around different collections and sketching and designing miscellaneous pieces for myself,” she says. “During that time, my challenge was finding a way to focus it all.” When friends started asking her to create pieces for them, a hobby turned into a reality. This March, her pieces were featured at an all-female designer exhibition, which was hosted by The Stax and Sotheby’s Palm Beach.

Jewelry designer Courtney Leidy (Victoria Benoit)

“Having had one month to pull together my debut collection, I started with a small capsule that I am continuing to build upon,” she says. “I launched with Double Flip Pendants, chains and rings, and will soon be launching mini pendants that can be worn on a chain or on an earring hoop, in addition to ear cuffs, bracelets and anklets. “As much as possible, I’m trying to make each piece multi-functional, so a pendant can be worn as both a necklace or an earring, an ear cuff as a pinky ring, a bracelet as an anklet, and so on.” Inspired by the colors, forms and fluidity of post-war abstract expressionism and Japan’s post-war Gutai art movement—like artist Jiro Yoshihara’s iconic “Circle” paintings—the Post Collection features her signature pendants in a variety of rich-colored cabochon gemstones, shapes and sizes.

Set in 18k yellow gold, the Double Flip allows you to wear one single pendant on its own or connect several together to create a truly unique statement piece. The Jiro Ring is an organically-shaped ring fabricated in heavy 18k yellow gold. “I like to mix contrasting textures and finishes, which isn’t commonly seen in contemporary jewelry,” she says. “I think that’s what sets my pieces apart. They’re big and bold, and while you can stack them, each is intended to be a statement piece all on its own.”

Cartier

Cartier has opened a seasonal boutique at The Royal Poinciana Plaza through May. The airy space features a palette of fabrics and materials in soft neutral tones incorporating cream, bronze and gold throughout, as well as local touches and impressive finishes. The iconic Panthère synonymous with Cartier anchors the salon, which features a warm, champagne-toned color palette combined with precious and natural materials with soft curves and an eye-catching light installation with sleek, hand-blown glass orbs. “We are thrilled to unveil our new seasonal Palm Beach boutique, a unique blend of modernity and local flavor,” says Mercedes Abramo, president and CEO of Cartier North America. “Palm Beach is an ideal location for Cartier, and we’re looking forward to returning to the community and welcoming guests with an exciting experience at The Royal Poinciana Plaza.” The range of Cartier jewelry and watch creations—from High Jewelry to the new Clash de Cartier collection and signature jewelry lines including Love, Panthère de Cartier and Juste un Clou, along with timepieces such as Santos de Cartier, Tank, Panthère de Cartier and more—are on offer.

The Cartier boutique

Mish

Jeweler Mish Tworkowski has opened an outpost of his Mish boutique in a historic Addison Mizner–designed pink stucco building that was once the home of Palm Beach’s first department store. Joseph Singer, Tworkowski’s partner, oversaw the architecture, with local preservationist architects Smith Kellogg Architecture executing his vision and New York City interior designer Katie Ridder masterminding the interiors. To celebrate the opening, the brand unveiled the new Why Knot? collection, which reimagines knotted ropes in stylish, playful and luxurious ways. The jewelry designer has also debuted a one-of-a-kind turquoise bracelet featuring his favorite shells and sea creatures turned into vibrant turquoise charms.

The Mish boutique

Veronica Beard

Veronica Beard has opened its 18th U.S. store in Palm Beach at The Royal Poinciana. The cool-girl label was founded by sisters-in-law Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard in 2010 and has fast become a household name with devotees like Meghan Markle, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez. This location offers the newest ready-to-wear, denim, swim, footwear and accessories.

The Veronica Beard boutique

Via Flagler by The Breakers

Via Flagler by The Breakers, an alfresco plaza located down the road from the oceanfront property on Royal Poinciana Way, has lots in store this spring. First is the opening of Main Street by The Breakers, a contemporary boutique-meets-café. The boutique features a comprehensive selection of accessories, fragrances, home décor and specialty items alongside coffee drinks, freshly made donuts, craft ice cream, homemade baked goods and a variety of sandwiches and snacks. “Through this venture, we wanted to re-energize the island’s original town center as a best-in-class lifestyle destination,” says The Breakers CEO Paul Leone. “Via Flagler is the newest gem on the island, not only marking the revitalization of historic Main Street but creating renewed excitement in retail.”

Via Flagler by The Breakers

Also notable this season at Via Flagler is the opening of a freestanding boutique from French beauty brand Sisley. With a clean, elegant, minimalist aesthetic, the new store showcases high-quality skincare, cosmetics, haircare and fragrances. The location will also house an exclusive spa cabin, where customers can benefit from the brand’s signature radiance-enhancing and anti-aging facial treatments. “The beautiful location in the heart of Palm Beach offers a high-end shopping and lifestyle destination for our already devoted local clientele,” says Sisley U.S. president James Maki. “We are pleased to join such a fantastic collection of luxury boutiques and eateries this spring.”

The bustling Delray Beach has welcomed a dynamic new restaurant to its roster of stellar dining concepts. The Ray Hotel opened its third in-house restaurant, the first led by a Michelin-starred chef in the city. With chef Akira Back at the helm of Akira Back, the luxury dining concept offers modern Japanese cuisine with a cutting-edge twist. Born in Seoul, Back crafted the menu with nods to his Korean heritage through authentic flavors and creative presentation.

The restaurant, designed by Celano Design Studios, features an outdoor seating area, dining room, sushi counter and bar. With statement design details including a dramatic blue stained wood front bar, curved wood trellis structures and banquettes upholstered in custom felted-wool, inspired by a painting by chef Akira’s mom, Young-Hee Back, the posh interiors are not only luxurious but laced with personal touches.

The Colony Hotel

Just steps from the Atlantic Ocean and Worth Avenue, The Colony Hotel welcomes locals and visitors alike with authentic boutique service through accommodations, curated amenities and culinary offerings. The 89-room hotel has been celebrated for its iconic pink-infused aesthetic since it opened in 1947, and in turn, the property has made periodic updates in order to accommodate its modern guests. Over the years, The Colony has collaborated with the likes of Aerin Lauder, Serena & Lily and Celerie Kemble of Kemble Interiors to create one-of-a-kind villa experiences with individual design schemes and custom décor. The most recent villa design comes from a collaboration with interior designer Mark D. Sikes. Sikes reimagined and restored the hotel’s 1,100-square-foot Villa Aralia to embody a classic but cool attitude, drawing inspiration from the hotel itself. The signature blue-and-white interiors in Villa Aralia mimic the hotel’s café awnings that Sikes grew familiar with as a regular hotel guest over the years.

Villa Aralia at The Colony Hotel (Carmel Brantley)

“Mark’s vision reflects the same optimistic spirit that we try to encapsulate at the hotel,” says The Colony’s owner and president, Sarah Wetenhall. “His style is fresh but timeless, exactly like The Colony.” Sikes incorporated furniture from his new collection with Chaddock in white lacquer, brass lighting fixtures from his collection with Hudson Valley Lighting and custom window treatments from Valley Drapery into the villa apartment’s interior design. The Villa Aralia is one of seven individually decorated spaces on the property where guests can not only bask in the curated design but enjoy personalized amenities like butler service, access to the exclusive villa pool and transportation around Palm Beach.

Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale

Surrounded by sun-soaked beaches, vibrant entertainment and endless shopping, it is safe to say that the new Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale is in good company. The recently opened 189-room hotel was dreamed up by Fort Hospitality, led by developer Nadim Ashi, to create a beachfront oasis in South Florida rooted in style and luxury. “Each of South Florida’s coastal communities has its own unique charm. From beach to city, Fort Lauderdale has a youthful and vibrant spirit, and we are channeling that energy, along with yacht club–style traditions, into our team and all the experiences we are creating for our guests,” says General Manager Mazen Saleh, who was most recently resort manager at Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach.

The pool at the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences Fort Lauderdale

Drawing inspiration from its coastal environment, award-winning Miami-based architect Kobi Karp designed the building’s curved silhouette in homage to the sleek lines of a luxury yacht. With contemporary lines and crisp white materials, the building itself is a vision that beautifully complements its city. Renowned London-based interior designer Tara Bernerd & Partners curated the hotel’s rooms, suites and public spaces with an effortless marriage of French Riviera luxury and mid-century modern design. The new hotel features both suites and hotel residences, luxurious spa and wellness offerings, oceanfront dining at Evelyn’s Fort Lauderdale and an elegant champagne bar.

That said, we want to retain the character of our beach town that attracted us to live, work and develop here.”

New York–based women’s ready-to-wear and accessories designer Nili Lotan has opened a store in Palm Beach at The Royal Poinciana. The 1,300-square-foot space is the brand’s fourth brick-and-mortar location in the U.S. and will showcase ready-to-wear, accessories and the new holiday baby capsule consisting of two sweatsuit styles in a snow leopard print and a camouflage print. “I tailored the new Palm Beach store specifically to my clients who live there, curating an atmosphere where women can both shop and appreciate the décor, the art, the space itself,” says the Israeli designer. “The new store will be another facet of my sensibility, where art meets fashion in an elevated yet nonchalant environment.” Lotan, who worked on the design team at Ralph Lauren after arriving in New York City, started her own label in 2003 with a six-piece capsule collection: three pairs of pants, two jackets and a skirt. “We started the first few seasons with pants and then evolved later into leather, outerwear and other categories including jeans,” says Lotan. Over the last 18 years, the brand has garnered loyal fans like Jennifer Aniston, Rihanna, Karlie Kloss, Julianne Moore, Dakota Johnson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hailey Bieber. “From day one, I set out to design a wardrobe of luxurious, chic and timeless pieces that are informed by my lifestyle,” says Lotan. We talked with the designer about her line and what’s on tap for the year ahead.

What pieces have been your bestsellers over the years?

The Diane blazer, Daniel jacket and all of the cotton pant styles (Jenna, East Hampton, Cropped Military, Shon) continue to be bestsellers.

What categories can we expect next?

This year, we launched two styles of handbags: the NL Tote and the Keith Crossbody. Next year: shoes, swimwear and menswear.

What’s been the secret to your success?

My designs don’t have an expiration date and my philosophy is buy, wear for many years and keep adding more pieces to create a diverse wardrobe. My collections are all about wardrobe building, and I’ve grown my product offering organically over the years to meet my needs, slowly adding new categories when I feel it’s the right time.

Planta

As part of a fast-growing expansion, vegetarian restaurant chain Planta has opened in West Palm Beach. With a 100 percent plant-based menu created by executive chef David Lee featuring items like coconut ceviche and avocado lime tartare and a selection of fresh craft cocktails like the Kombucha Mojito, the concept has garnered a lot of praise for its Toronto, Miami and New York City outposts. The Rosemary Square location is the first to debut an outdoor bar called The Oasis in addition to its serene, neutral-hued indoor dining room.

Available for daytime rental, these luxury cabanas have been redesigned by resort’s longtime designer, Adam D. Tihany working as design consultant to Peacock + Lewis Architects. They are the perfect oceanfront oasis for couples or families, a retreat for friends, or even the ultimate work-from-home set-up. Each exclusive, island-chic bungalow ranges from 300-400 square feet (ideal for up to six guests) and includes a dedicated concierge to meet every need/request, a lounge area with living room furniture and dining table, a private, full bathroom with shower and luxe amenities, a refrigerator stocked with complimentary nonalcoholic beverages, food & beverage service, flatscreen television and Wi-Fi.

The Brazilian Court Salon

The Brazilian Court Salon, located inside the Brazilian Court Hotel, has just completed a top-down renovation by LSI Designs’ Lauren Hastings. Designed to improve functionality while also bringing about a fresh, cutting-edge design, the new Salon features include expanded stations for hairstyling and treatments, a new nail suite, a treatment room for everything from facials and waxing to deep tissue massages and a modern-day version of a dedicated men’s traditional barber station. Black quartzite countertops, textured glass divider walls and geometric flooring bring a fresh, modern look to the hotel salon.

Le Bilboquet Palm Beach

The South of France has been transported to Palm Beach with the opening of Le Bilboquet Palm Beach. The new Worth Avenue location of the New York–born French restaurant welcomes guests through a picturesque archway into an open-air terrace lined with a wall of laced jasmine and other lush greenery. Designed by interior designer David Lucido, Le Bilboquet Palm Beach features a decidedly art deco vibe thanks to Maison Gatti bistro chairs, a nickel-topped bar, terrazzo flooring and art curated by local resident and arts patron Beth DeWoody. Situated in a building owned by Jane Holzer, a producer and art collector, the restaurant has an elegant vibe without being stuffy. Philippe Delgrange, owner and creator of “Bilbo,” as it is known by its A-list clientele, says, “I’m about creating an ambience and a space that has soul and authenticity.” The menu at this new Palm Beach location features signature dishes like steak tartare alongside new creations like seasonal crudos.

The dining room at Le Bilboquet Palm Beach

La Goulue Palm Beach

La Goulue Palm Beach is the first extension of the New York–based French restaurant located in the Palm Way Building with a chic 1900s Parisian design. “We are bringing world-class dining to Palm Beach along with a New York City standard of service,” says restaurateur Jean Denoyer. “Chef Pascal Sanchez’s classical French training combined with a modern bistro menu will deliver an unparalleled experience in Palm Beach.” At the Palm Beach iteration, chef Sanchez will serve up all the French bistro classics the restaurant has become known for over the years (think escargots, Thai mussels, duck magret and steak au poivre).

Al fresco dining at La Goulue

True Food Kitchen

Health-conscious restaurant True Food Kitchen opens its doors in late July in Rosemary Square in West Palm Beach with a focus on nutritious food options across a range of different diets, including gluten-free, organic, vegan and vegetarian. Opt for a fresh, hand-crafted pressed juice or perhaps one of the eatery’s signature natural refreshers (we love the Sparkling Prickly Pear Tisane) to start your day.

Dining at True Food Kitchen

Florie’s

Florie’s, the Mediterranean-spirited dining destination from Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco at the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, welcomes guests back with a new menu and talent in the kitchen. The 200-seat open-concept space, designed by Martin Brudnizki, blends the property’s beachside locale with the glamour symbolic of Palm Beach for an elegant yet properly understated setting. “With sharing being an essential component of the Florie’s experience, we are excited to once again share our values of passion and authenticity for all to enjoy,” says Colagreco. “We are ready, more than ever, to say, welcome home.” New dishes developed by chef de cuisine Nino La Spina, include Maine scallops yakitori with rice cream, spinach and lemon zest and D’Artagnan Green Circle chicken à la broche with green peas, lemon and potato mousseline. Florie’s Bar is also showcasing floral-inspired and garden-driven cocktails made using an abundance of citrus and fresh ingredients from the onsite garden.

For years, Delray Beach had been the little sister of neighboring Palm Beach. But in the last decade, it has been transformed into a glittery cultural hub for both locals and visitors. The invigorated Atlantic Avenue is teeming with a bustling spirit and a beachy-cool energy. The walkable coastal avenue is dotted with restaurants, boutiques and beauty, fitness and wellness-focused businesses. With many hospitality, residential and commercial projects under construction, the luxury space is ready to keep expanding.

A number of the most revered outposts along Atlantic Avenue are thanks to Menin Development, the Delray Beach–based, privately owned developer and manager of commercial real estate properties. The company has had its feet firmly planted in luxury hospitality since CEO and founder Craig Menin opened its doors in 1985; today, it is bringing a real estate–focused mindset to the revitalization of Delray Beach.

The Ray, one of the newest luxury hotels set to open in Delray Beach, tapped a trifecta of talent to bring its tropical-inspired, design-centric atmosphere to life. Guests are welcomed by lush, living walls, large-scale art installations and rooftop gardens that create a luxurious escape. The hotel marries interior designs by Virserius Studio, Studio Munge and Celano Design to execute the stunning vision in a beautiful and sustainable way.

The lobby lounge at The Ray

The LEED Gold-certified hotel features 141 guest rooms as well as the ultimate rooftop experience. The 20,000-square-foot rooftop pool deck at The Ray will offer guests access to a lively restaurant and bar with lush tree canopy shading and private cabanas. Separately, The Cube will serve as a unique indoor/outdoor venue space with its own rooftop. The standalone space is separate from the main building and is surrounded by a glass curtain wall system creating the illusion of a floating cube.

For years, Delray Beach had been the little sister of neighboring Palm Beach. But in the last decade, it has been transformed into a glittery cultural hub for both locals and visitors.

Delray Beach Market

One of the largest local businesses slated to open this weekend is the Delray Beach Market. Designed by Jose Gonzalez, principal of award-winning Gonzalez Architects, this $60 million, 150,000-square-foot immersive culinary experience features 24 curated regional and local vendors, interactive murals and sculptures, a mezzanine with an exhibition kitchen, lounge area, bar and stage and an underground lounge. Menin has devoted roughly 40 percent of the space to what the company calls “Florida’s largest food court,” with accompanying restaurants and a brewery. The Delray Beach Market is ready to truly bridge the city’s community through food and culture.

Dining at Delray Beach Market

On May 20, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival will be hosting an event for the first time in Delray Beach, happening at the Market.

“We have a unique opportunity to create memorable experiences for the city in a variety of ways,” says Menin. “With the innovative food concept and interior of Lionfish, the incredible accessibility and immersion of food, art and culture of Delray Beach Market, the fresh steakhouse twist of Avalon and the architectural and design-focused boutique hotel concept of The Ray, we are invigorating the city further and creating job growth along the way.”

The designer and entrepreneur unveils Villa Jasmine at The Colony Hotel in Palm Beach

The post Aerin Lauder Designs Her First Hotel Villa appeared first on DuJour.

The new 2,100-square-foot Aerin Villa Jasmine at The Colony Hotel has been personally designed by lifestyle entrepreneur Aerin Lauder. Drawing inspiration from her memories of spending years in Palm Beach as a child with her grandmother, Estée Lauder, the villa underwent a complete renovation and redesign to reveal a pastel-hued retreat. “Palm Beach has been an important part of my life since I was a little girl,” says Lauder. “I have beautiful memories of this special place with my family. Being able to design and curate a villa for The Colony Hotel is a dream come true.”

Aerin Villa Jasmine at The Colony Hotel

Lauder incorporated lighting from her own line, woven rattan furniture by Soane and botanical print fabrics by Colefax & Fowler. The villa offers a direct private entrance, two generous master bedrooms, two full-size bathrooms, kitchen and gracious living and dining areas, each opening out to the fountained villa courtyard or front patio via French doors. Original historical details abound, including old growth pecky cypress doors and cast stone fireplace. With one foot on Worth Avenue and the other in the ocean, The Colony’s ethos of casual elegance provides the perfect backdrop for this collaboration. “As female leaders of family legacies, Aerin and I share a vision of a life lived beautifully,” says Sarah Wetenhall, Owner and CEO of The Colony. “Our deep roots in Palm Beach inspire our aesthetics, making AERIN the ideal partner for The Colony.”

Aerin Villa Jasmine at The Colony Hotel

Villa Jasmine is one of seven individually decorated villa apartments created from the historic Mediterranean-style Casa Manana, the original home of The Colony Hotel’s founders. There is an effortless cohesion between the Lauder-designed villa and The Colony Hotel, from the coastal color palette to the classic yet contemporary design elements. “The Colony Hotel is an iconic destination that allows you to experience the magic of Palm Beach and we hope that the Villa Jasmine becomes the perfect escape, especially during the unique times that we are living today,” says Lauder.

Buccan:

A lot has changed since chef Clay Conley left Mandarin Oriental Miami’s Azul restaurant a decade ago to turn Palm Beach’s staid dining scene on its head with restaurants like Buccan, Imoto and Grato. In the meanwhile, Conley earned five James Beard nominations and started a family with his wife and college sweetheart, Averill. Now, Ember Group’s Palm Beach original, Buccan, is celebrating its 10th anniversary of showcasing inventive American classics in a casual setting. A lively bar is always packed and locals come craving the tuna tartare and squid ink pasta. “We are incredibly grateful to our families and our community of friends, neighbors, colleagues and guests for the extraordinary support we still receive a decade after opening our doors,” says Conley. “Their trust and appreciation have provided our culinary team a space to be innovative and allowed us to stay current. It really feels like an intimate and synergistic relationship with our community. It’s been quite an honor.” In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Ember Group also started the 501(c)(3) Buccan Provisions in an effort to feed out-of-work and food insecure area residents. “Despite facing some of the most challenging years the industry has ever seen, the support we’ve received from the community and our guests has been incredible,” says Ember Group partner Sam Slattery. “We’ve not only had the opportunity to continue to grow our business, but we’ve had the great privilege of giving back with the establishment of Buccan Provisions.”

RH West Palm Beach:

RH has launched a new wine program at its restaurants nationwide, including its West Palm Beach location. Offering one of the most expansive by-the-glass lists in town, the program balances luxury with familiarity and features over 60 curated wine selections, 40 of which will be available by the glass. Guests of this restaurant in Palm Beach can expect to see pours from esteemed vintners across the United States and Europe such as Perrier-Jouët, Antinori, Silver Oak and Caymus-Suisun—all offered by the glass. RH will also launch a selection of rare, limited-production wines by the bottle, which have not previously been available outside of Napa Valley.

Pura Vida:

Spanning 72 acres of outdoor space with eateries, luxury shopping, art and more, Rosemary Square is thriving. Under the Related Companies umbrella, the mixed-use space has unveiled a number of new endeavors, including 16,000 square feet of restaurants. One of the newest eateries to open in Rosemary Square is Pura Vida, a bright and airy husband-and-wife-run eatery first started in Miami’s colorful South of Fifth neighborhood. The fifth location of Pura Vida serves healthy food made from scratch using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients every single day. With welcoming outdoor seating, this is the perfect spot for a refreshing superfood smoothie or a wild seared ahi tuna bowl with avocado and spicy aioli.

What to Do:

This winter, The Royal Poinciana Plaza has lured new art galleries to its sunny environs. Joining Palm Beach stalwart Gavlak Gallery are New York City transplants Pace Gallery and Acquavella, setting up shop in Florida for the first time. Sotheby’s has also opened a storefront featuring a rotating selection of contemporary paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst, jewelry, Rolex and Patek Philippe timepieces and luxury cars in its 2,700-square-foot space.

Sotheby’s new space

As a celebrated sanctuary in Palm Beach, The Breakers resort offers guests coastal glamour, unparalleled ocean views and, now, a completely renovated fitness oasis. Ocean Fitness is a 6,000-square-foot space that includes a 1,700-square-foot oceanfront terrace for the most ideal backdrop to any workout. With high-tech equipment and fitness systems from Life Fitness and Technogym, Ocean Fitness makes working out while on vacation a dream come true. Guests can enjoy cycling and yoga classes on the terrace or hop on a self-propelled Woodway Curve or 4Front treadmill and savor the Atlantic Ocean vistas through the 10-foot-tall arched glass windows. Complimentary weekly classes range from water aerobics to a high-intensity boot camp for guests who want an energizing workout before or after they savor all of the other luxuries at The Breakers.

Ocean Fitness at The Breakers

Where to Eat:

Head to downtown Delray Beach for a sea-to-table culinary experience at new eatery Lionfish. Locally sourced, wild-caught fish, grass-fed meat and local produce coupled with lots of outdoor seating make this San Diego transplant the place to be this winter. The latest opening from Clique Hospitality, led by hospitality veteran Andy Masi, the modern restaurant overlooks bustling Atlantic Avenue. “Lionfish will be your community hangout, your intimate dining space to escape the hustle of the avenue, gather with friends and socialize over outrageous quality seafood and shared plate offerings,” says Masi, who has set up brand headquarters nearby.

Lionfish

Bluestone Lane, the New York favorite coffee and café brand, has opened an adorable outpost at The Colony Hotel. Featuring grab n’ go snacks, breakfast sandwiches and pastries along with the brand’s signature caffeinated beverages, this is the perfect spot to hang out at after a day of shopping on nearby Worth Avenue or at the beach.

Where to Shop:

Lingua Franca has, for years, produced sustainably sourced cashmere sweaters, pants, pajamas and cotton button-down shirts, all hand-embroidered with witty phrases (“Free Melania,” “News Not Noise,” “I Miss Barack”) by women in New York City. Now with two Manhattan boutiques under its belt, the brand, which is beloved by Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria and Connie Britton, has opened a store at The Royal Poinciana Plaza. Along with its signature embroidered sweaters, the brand’s founder Rachelle Hruska MacPherson will also sell home and travel accessories and natural bath and body products.

From glamorous eveningwear to sportswear classics, Badgley Mischka has offered women a timeless aesthetic rooted in wearable luxury since its inception 30 years ago. The brand’s newest outpost at The Royal Poinciana Plaza will feature exclusive home and handbag collections, evening and bridal shoe collections as well as beautiful artisanal pottery selected by its founders, Mark Badgley and James Mischka.

The glittery island of Palm Beach is tucked away in South Florida like its very own luxury sanctuary. Dotted with pastel-hued hotels and chic beachfront eateries, a getaway to Palm Beach can include different restaurants every night, high-end shopping during the days, and Instagram-worthy hotels for days. Depending on your travel plans, you may simply be daydreaming about escaping to Palm Beach or perhaps you live there and would like a mini staycation! Here are the newest spots that you should visit in Palm Beach, Florida.

The Colony Hotel reopened this October with an expanded Swifty’s Pool area and a complete lobby renovation. The new Living Room is being designed by Kemble Interiors and will feature de Gournay’s first ever completely bespoke wallpaper design, created in collaboration with property owner Sarah Wetenhall in what she calls “a love letter to Palm Beach.”

The mood board for The Colony’s new lobby

The Breakers resort has launched its second off-site restaurant located at Via Flagler by The Breakers, an alfresco plaza down the road from the oceanfront property. Named after Florida visionary and resort founder Henry M. Flagler, Henry’s Palm Beach is all about American classics like chicken pot pie, beef Wellington, Dover sole and housemade pastas. The spacious and colorful interiors were designed by the resort’s longtime designer, Adam D. Tihany, and have been adapted with social distancing top of mind.

As a longtime lover of roses as a scent and skincare ingredient, Palm Beach aesthetician and skincare expert Tammy Fender has launched a new product, Celestial Rose Crème. “In the treatment room as an aesthetician, and in creating my skincare collection, I’ve worked with rose since the very beginning,” says Fender. “It is an incredible natural remedy for skin, full of a complex array of vitamins and nutrients, but it also truly encompasses the whole body-mind-spirit connection of what holistic skincare is all about.” While rose is a main ingredient in the luxurious lotion, so is manuka honey, which helps to heal and hydrate even the most sensitive skin types.

Celestial Rose Crème

So, how best to use it? “As a night cream, Celestial Rose Crème can offer deep restoration to the skin tissues,” Fender explains. “Our body is in repair mode during sleep, and this nutritive balm has everything the skin needs to rejuvenate the complexion. But it also brings a sense of receptive openness to the heart.”

Designer India Foster branches out with a minimal yet practical furniture collection called Shizen

The post India Foster is a Force of Nature in Palm Beach appeared first on DuJour.

Palm Beach native and resident India Foster put in years as an interior designer at her mother’s acclaimed design firm, Leta Austin Foster, with offices in Palm Beach and New York City. Her work has included projects from historical preservation to new, modern construction. “I worked on such a wide breadth of projects and with such discerning clients that I ended up developing a lot of custom designs,” says Foster. “I really enjoyed the process of collaborating with metal artists, woodworkers, textile designers and stone fabricators to bring these concepts to life.” She was able to build a great network of relationships with local talent, so it was only a matter of time before she branched out on her own. Now, she’s launching furniture brand Shizen (“nature” in Japanese), all fabricated using organic materials. We spoke to Foster about this natural progression.

What made you want to showcase the work of local artisans in this way?

As a fourth-generation Floridian, I have always been inspired by our sublime subtropical surroundings and distinct cultural history, so ideas for vernacular designs have been forming for years. I wanted to create a brand known for sophisticated designs crafted by hand in SoFlo. Over the last decade, there has been an explosion of artistic expression here, so the timing is perfect.

Shizen Inverso credenza

What void in the furniture market did you see that you wanted to address?

As the daughter of a decorator, I grew up going to many studios and workrooms run by talented local artisans. Over the years, as designers and clients started sourcing materials from the global market and using bigger operations in faraway cities, many of these places disappeared. Now, I sense that the tide has shifted.

Shizen Largo box

Tell us about the materials you source for the furniture.

The raw goods are carefully procured from the region. The wood comes from trees felled by storms or timbers reclaimed using modern technology. Each piece of stone is a handpicked remnant from a local project. The alligator skins are sustainably wild-caught from the southeastern United States. I design and produce all of the pieces in collaboration with local artists and craftspeople, who masterfully elevate these materials into sophisticated designs.

What’s special about these pieces?

Savvy customers have grown weary of that which is available to anyone, anywhere. To be sure, there is a place for mass-produced pieces in the modern home, but without handmade objects—textiles, art, furniture—a living space has no life force, no identity, no soul. I’ve tried to create functional pieces that add richness to any style of home.

Palm Beach Power Players

Multitasking millennials Rob Gray and Teddy Vlock represent Wellington, Florida’s new guard who are reinventing the winter horse capital. Having met through show jumping, the Canadian and Connecticut transplants founded T&R Development for hip, peer-directed projects. “Properties weren’t designed for the needs of the modern equestrian,” Gray says of the influx of year-round residents who want the whole package. “People would relocate their horses and rent for season, but now they’re looking to own a farm here with location, design, amenities and their horses right in their backyard.”

Rob Gray and Teddy Vlock (photo credit: The Book LLC)

In addition to owning property in the Palm Beach Polo Club, the boys snapped up the last remaining land in the Mallet Hill enclave with boldfaced names like Bloomberg, Jobs and Kellogg as neighbors. Priced at roughly $15 million and $23 million, the farms will be ready for their two- and four-legged occupants by Fall 2019. The internationally ranked Vlock understands the appeal of putting down roots. “Most shows last a week, so you can still have a normal life by keeping your home base in Wellington,” he says.

Tired of driving to the coast for a decent meal, the partners also opened the Trophy Room. The cosmopolitan restaurant and lounge’s spacious terrace with a fountain and box hedges mask its strip mall setting. Blue velvet seating and Carrera marble tables further depart from country clichés.

Trophy Room

“We’re going for a St. Tropez concept, where dinner organically flows into hanging out and listening to music over drinks,” says Gray, who previously ran the Gallery, a pop-up cocktail bar at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. Portioned for sharing, their new American menu covers enough ground that people could easily dine here a few nights a week. Dishes range from light (yellowfin tuna tartare with strawberry and za’atar salsa) to heavy (pumpkin lasagna) fare; and simple (bacon burger) to progressive (roasted bone marrow with radish salad). “Being such a sophisticated, international community, there’s a big need for good food here,” Gray adds.

If the stunning Four Seasons Hotel at the Surf Club is any indication of real estate development firm Fort Partners’ abilities, get ready to be wowed by the multi-million-dollar makeover of its Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach. Designer Martin Brudnizki’s ice cream palette and beachy materials like terrazzo and rattan better suit the 209-room hotel. Other additions are poolside rooms with large balconies and Florie’s restaurant from two Michelin-starred chef Mauro Colagreco. 2800 South Ocean Boulevard; fourseasons.com.

Golf in Palm Beach

Golfers are going gaga over the fully renovated Ocean Course at The Breakers Palm Beach, making it the Sunshine State’s oldest course, dating back to 1897. Rees Jones, who reinvented the resort’s sister championship course, installed challenging undulations and water hazards among its 18 holes. Sustainability such as salt-tolerant grass was also a priority. Before rounds, golfers can practice at John Webster Golf Academy’s new putting green studio.
Eating in Palm Beach

After testing the waters last winter, seafood-centric Maven returns for the full season with a new retractable roof and live music. “My wife Eliza designed the interiors,” says David Silva, part of the crew behind Galley Beach and Afterhouse seafood bistro and wine bar in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

Like Galley Beach, lunch is a scene at Maven. Executive chef Scott Osif sources Holman’s Harvest greens from nearby Loxahatchee Groves for the tuna tartare and avocado sandwich with sesame dressing. Dinner items include bigeye tuna and grilled Spanish octopus. Florida citrus, a winter treat, comes in a fennel curd and pomegranate dessert. 207 Royal Poinciana Way; mavenpalmbeach.com.

Art in Palm Beach

Los Angeles and Palm Beach art gallery curator Sarah Gavlak has always been a bit of a gypsy, having set up shop in interesting spaces from a Manhattan apartment to Worth Avenue’s Via Encantada. She’s on the move again to the Royal Poinciana Plaza with inaugural exhibits by Israeli artist Nir Hod and a group presentation of her roster of women and LGBTQ artists. 340 Royal Poinciana Plaza; gavlakgallery.com.

Shopping in Palm Beach

Lilly Pulitzer gifted itself a new flagship for its 60th anniversary. With the nearly 4,000-square-foot location on Worth Avenue, the brand also returns to the origin of its late namesake designer’s tropical-printed shifts. Exclusives are limited-edition heritage capsule collections and an onsite print designer for custom shifts in Mila and Gabby styles. 240 Worth Avenue; lillypulitzer.com.

Palm Beach has long been lauded as the ultimate playground for the rich, famous, and some of America’s most successful families. With unparalleled natural beauty, iconic properties, and world-class shopping, it’s not hard to understand the destination’s inherent draw. And although undeniably ritzy, part of its charm relies on its welcoming atmosphere and diverse range of cultural events that take place throughout the sun-soaked seasons—most notably, the upcoming Palm Beach Food & Wine Festival.

One of the most highly anticipated gastronomic happenings of the year, the festival is about to embark on its twelfth installment, officially commencing on Thursday, December 13 and concluding with the Grand Tasting on Sunday, December 16. More than 15 events will take place during the course of the long weekend, including intimate dinners, wine and cocktail tastings, and cooking demonstrations led by a panel of renowned chefs and culinary stars.

Esteemed headliners include revered guests such as famed French chef Daniel Boulud (best known for Daniel, his Michelin two-star restaurant in New York City); James Beard Award-winning chef and cookbook author Ashley Christensen (behind some of Raleigh’s most popular hotspots, such as Poole’s Diner, Beasley’s Chicken + Honey, and Fox Liquor Bar); and renowned Latin-American chef Jose Garces (who operates more than a dozen respected venues throughout the East Coast).

Other recognizable talents include some of Food Network’s most treasured chefs and personalities. Festival attendees can look forward to seeing an array of familiar faces like Amanda Freitag (as seen on the hit series Chopped); Robert Irvine (from Restaurant: Impossible); and Duff Goldman (star of Ace of Cakes).

This year, the event will be headquartered at the legendary Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach, which recently underwent an estimated $45 million renovation. Aside from mechanical and infrastructure updates, some of the property’s newest features include a remodeled swimming pool, the addition of an adults-only pool, new Cabana Terrace Rooms, and more. But ask any epicure, and they’ll confirm that the most exciting update is undoubtedly the resort’s soon-to-debut restaurant.

Florie’s is Four Seasons Palm Beach’s newest signature restaurant. The concept was created in partnership with internationally celebrated chef Mauro Colagreco, who is also part of the festival’s official lineup of celebrity talent.

The two Michelin star chef is behind Mirazur in France, which was recently named number three on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The opening marks the Argentine-Italian chef’s first foray into the U.S. culinary arena and will pay homage to South Florida’s relaxed, coastal style. The menu is inspired by Colagreco’s Mediterranean spirit, multicultural background, and international approach, as well as his passion for gardening and earth conscious ingredients. Expect a range of phenomenal dishes, like eggplant and mozzarella with parmesan cream (touched by fire in the hearth oven); wagyu beef with grilled red peppers from Florie’s yakitori grill; and à la broche dishes such as farm-raised truffled chicken finished with albufera sauce, potatoes, chives, and shallots.

“Palm Beach is an ideal place for me with all of its similarities to my home in the South of France including the environment, the sun and the sea,” said Colagreco. “I am excited for the opportunity to work with Four Seasons, a brand that carries values I hold dear such as excellence in hospitality and ambition.”

With its swaying palm trees, cerulean waters, and stretches of seashell-studded shorelines, it makes sense that Palm Beach is a highly regarded retreat. But with ongoing gastronomy-focused events and inspired restaurant openings such as Florie’s, it won’t be long before Palm Beach adds celebrated culinary destination to its long list of accolades. To experience the festival for yourself, head to the official event website to purchase tickets today.

The 30-year-old daughter of New York’s mayor, an acclaimed equestrian and philanthropist who spends half the year in Wellington, has just released Off Course (Bloomsbury), the third book in her young-adult series “The A Circuit.” We spoke to Bloomberg about writing, riding and what it takes to win at both.

What do being an author and an equestrian have in common?
I work hard at riding and go into each competition knowing if I don’t have confidence, I should just go home. With writing, if you’re always second-guessing yourself, you’re wasting your time.

You’re competing again after back surgery. How does it feel?
I have never felt stronger or fitter. I was truly terrified to take a year off, but it was a great thing for me mentally and physically.

Who is your most favorite young-adult writer?
Roald Dahl. Nowadays I love Switch Bitch and his short stories.
