Sure, you don’t need a $1,200 fountain pen, but this one from Porsche Design might just be a worthwhile indulgence. The P’3135 Solid Fountain Pen boasts an 18K gold nib—for the non-pen savvy, “nib” is a fancy way of saying “point”—and the barrel is milled from a single piece of titanium. It’s also covered with a PVD coating that makes the pen scratch-resistant, and according to Porsche, it’s also ten times harder than steel. We’ll just take their word for it.
The P’3135 represents the newest writing tool in Porsche’s accessories collection (yes, they have one) and weighs in at 1.6 ounces, compared to the standard .2 ounce Bic. It is, of course, refillable, thanks to an end piece that’s easy to unscrew, and it comes with a protective aluminum sleeve for storing when it’s not being used. The pen will be available starting July 15 in Porsche Design stores, high-end department stores, and at porsche-design.com for $1,200—a small price to pay for a Porsche.
