For Dr. Brian Gilchrist, pediatric surgery isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling. Board-certified in both general and pediatric surgery, Dr. Gilchrist has spent his career caring for the most vulnerable patients with a blend of surgical precision, clinical excellence, and profound compassion.
A graduate of Tufts Medical School, Dr. Gilchrist completed rigorous surgical training at both Harvard University and Brown University—foundations that shaped his academic and technical approach. Over the years, he has published extensively on neonatal and pediatric surgical topics and lectured across the country and around the world.
In 2009, Dr. Gilchrist led the American Pediatric Surgery Association’s Pediatric Trauma program in Puerto Rico, reinforcing his commitment to advancing care and education on an international scale.
For the past five years, Dr. Gilchrist has served as a dedicated clinical surgeon in the Bronx and at NYU, performing more than 700 cases per year—a volume that speaks to both his expertise and unwavering work ethic. He has earned “Teacher of the Year” awards from both medical students and residents, reflecting his impact not just on patients, but on the next generation of doctors.
His book on necrotizing enterocolitis, a critical condition in newborns, has become a vital reference in Neonatal Intensive Care Units across the United States.
Dr. Gilchrist’s philosophy is simple yet profound: “Children are always victims of their diseases. As surgeons, we must rise to meet that responsibility with skill and heart.”
