A Modern Destination in Midtown

For its 75th, the modern design authority opens its first brick-and-mortar store

Though you might have to be a modern design enthusiast to pinpoint architect Florence Knoll Bassett as a frontliner in bringing modernism to America in the mid-twentieth century, just about anyone can appreciate the clean, minimalist aesthetic in commercial and interior design. And as of last week, you don’t have to be a buyer or consultant to shop the iconic Knoll look for your own home.

For the first time since its founding in 1938, Knoll—the industry’s leading creators of modern furnishings—has opened a retail location for consumers called the Knoll Home Design Shop. Situated in the heart of New York City, the brick-and-mortar store will offer seasonal curations of residential furniture, textiles and accessories. And for those not in New York, the company has also launched a new e-commerce destination at knoll.com, so anyone in the market for its signature designs and pieces and purchase pieces directly from the brand. In addition, Knoll’s 75th anniversary project also includes newly redesigned offices and a showroom for commercial clients all in the same location—a celebration on many levels, quite literally.
