Flying High with Wheels Up

A new mobile app makes air travel even easier

The private aviation membership club Wheels Up and its growing fleet of brand new 42 King Air 350i and Citation Excel/XLS aircrafts ensures that its client base—1,300 members and counting—will never again have to worry about getting from point A to point B. Members benefit from the flexibility of hourly pricing on a pay-as-you-fly basis without the long-term commitment restrictions of traditional jet card programs. The company owns all its own aircrafts in an attempt to control their network and quality of the rides, so you know you’re going to get the same plane every time.

Another special aspect of the app is the Shared Flights function, a forum for members who want to book flights with other members, an option that further reduces the cost of flying privately. Members can propose flights and post to the network with the swipe of a finger so another member looking for that same itinerary can hitch a ride as a Joining Passenger and pay a fraction of the flight cost—and the logistics are all worked out by Wheels Up’s team.

“Wheels Up is truly democratizing the private aviation industry,” says Robert Garrymore, President of Wheels Up Ventures. “Many people are intimidated by the idea of flying privately, mostly due to the high up-front costs and restrictive long-term commitments associated with traditional jet companies. However, the Wheels Up experience is much more user-friendly.”

But there’s even more. “Members also receive insider access to exciting opportunities through our Wheels Down program including popular events like the Super Bowl, The Masters and Art Basel,” says Justin Walker, Chief Partnerships Officer. “Additionally, membership automatically includes various partner benefits such as access to our full-service luxury concierge program in partnership with Four Hundred and special offers with leading brands across category including Kwiat, Luxury Retreats and Barton & Gray Mariners Club, to name a few.”
