Jessica Chastain’s Piaget

The redhead’s white-hot watch

When we talk about watches, we use the word movement a lot. Generally, we’re referring to the mechanism that powers a watch. Today, however, we have an opportunity to talk about a timepiece where the fluidity and kinetic nature of the strap is the driver.

Specifically, when saw Jessica Chastain wearing the Piaget Couture Précieuse cuff watch in white gold and diamonds at the Los Angeles premiere of her last east film, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, we had to take note. One of the perks of being a brand ambassador for a luxury brand is that you get to explore their collections and dress up in their finest creations. And the Couture Précieuse is certainly a grand example of Piaget’s unique 140 year history in both horology and jewelry making.

On the watchmaking end, the ultra-flat technology of the Piaget 56P Quartz movement allows the time telling part of the bracelet to sit elegantly on the wrist. Piaget is well known for such super skinny calibers as the The Altiplano 900P, which measures a mere 3.65mm thick. Not only does the ultra flat movement make the Couture Précieuse look pretty, because some of the components are thinner than a human hair, the mechanics are pretty impressive as well.

On the flip side of the coin, Piaget’s fine jewelry making expertise gives the brand an advantage when it comes to producing slim cases. The Couture Précieuse collection of watches and jewelry was introduced in 2012 as a celebration of feminine elegance. As the name implies, it is also inspired by the artistry and craft of haute couture clothing. Each piece is developed at the Manufacture and then hand built in the Piaget Haute Joaillerie workshop.

This expression and expertise really comes together in Chastain’s supple Cuff watch. Its designers say that this diamond dotted, latticework bracelet was inspired by the transparency and mystery of a veil. The 194 brilliant-cut diamonds certainly sparkle like dewdrops on a web.

Of course the always-elegant Chastain wears this unique, 18k white gold version well. Like the fairy tale warrior she depicts in Huntsman, this watch may look delicate, but it makes a strong statement.
