George Clooney is as good as it gets, but even he is not exempt from the high standards of an A-list marriage proposal.
Six months after meeting human rights lawyer Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin), the now 54-year-old silver fox knew it was time to put a ring on it, only in his case the meticulously planned evening didn’t go exactly as he had hoped. During a recent interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Clooney shared exactly what went down the night he proposed, and let’s just say it wasn’t without a few bumps along the way. With aunt Rosemary Clooney’s “Why Shouldn’t I” playing in the background, Clooney asked his love to grab a lighter from a drawer housing the diamond ring.
“She reaches around and she pulls out the box and I’ve got just the ring sitting in there, and she pulls it out, she looks at it and she’s like, ‘It’s a ring,’” Clooney recalls. “Like, as if somebody had left it there some other time. I don’t know. And I’m doing all the moves you can do with my face and I got down on my knee and said, ‘I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life without you.’ And she kept looking at the ring and she was looking at me and she was like ‘Oh my God.'”
“Finally, I literally said, ‘Look, I hope the answer is yes, but I need an answer. I’m 52 and I could throw out my hip pretty soon,'” he continued. “And she said, ‘Oh, yes.’”
And the rest is Hollywood history. Check out the video below to watch Clooney recount the whole ordeal.
