Room Request! Wedgewood Hotel

Inside the highly-requested penthouse offering European elegance in Downtown Vancouver

It’s not surprising that the Wedgewood Hotel in Downtown Vancouver has the refinement of Old Europe: The property’s owner, Eleni Skalbania, was born and raised in Greece before opening the family-run boutique hotel in British Columbia 25 years ago. Skalbania lends her personal touch to each of Wedgewood’s 83 rooms, each decorated with antiques, original oil paintings, carpets and sculptures from her private collection. The elegant-yet-understated Relais & Châteaux property is located in the heart of Vancouver’s trendy Robson Square, making it one of the city’s most in-demand hotels. But which room do guests most often request? For the answer, we turned to Wedgewood’s Maître de Maison, Philip Meyer.

Most requested room in the hotel:
“Penthouse 1201.”

What makes it special:
“The large patio and the beautiful soft decor are what make this room so popular. It’s a very romantic room with the open double Jacuzzi tub, separate marble shower, and private patio off the bedroom.”

Your personal favorite:
“Penthouse 1201.”

Because…
“The penthouses are special because the antiques, oil paintings and beautiful, rich fabrics come from owner from Eleni Skalbania’s personal collection offering the ultimate in comfort and understated luxury so guests feel right at home.”

Celebrity guests:
“Pierce Brosnan stayed in this Penthouse Suite twice for extended periods while filming in Vancouver.”

The rate:
$950 – $1430 per night

Fun fact:
Many guests of the hotel (including Goldie Hawn and Pierce Brosnan) rent bikes to tour the city and are often accompanied by Philip Meyer, a former competitive cyclist.
