When you enter the lobby of The Spire Queenstown, you’ll feel as if you’ve walked into the living room of a friend who has an eye for exquisite design—or an insanely talented interior designer. It’s luxe and modern, but not in the too-fancy-to-sit-on-the-couch sort of way. Rich leather furnishings surround a chic electric fireplace—the kind that begs you to grab a “flat white” coffee from the attached café and stay a while.
That warm, inviting feeling transcends throughout the property and into the suites. Of course, the intimacy is due in large part to The Spire’s size—there are just 10 rooms, each as elegantly decorated as the lobby. With so few guests, you’re almost always greeted on a first-name basis by a member of the staff. And don’t be surprised if the general manager offers to treat you to a round of drinks at No5 Church Lane, The Spire’s restaurant and bar. (If he does, be sure to order the Burning Man, a smoky bourbon cocktail perfect for a frigid evening.)
Inside The Spires
The hotel is located on a quiet lane in the heart of Queenstown’s city center, surrounded by trendy restaurants, local boutiques and lively bars. There’s no shortage of dining options in the area, but you’ll be inclined to stay put in The Spire—at least for breakfast. In the morning, No5 Church Lane serves dishes like buttermilk pancakes with caramelized apple puree and cinnamon mascarpone, and house-smoked salmon with scrambled free-range eggs.
We spoke to The Spire Queenstown’s General Manager James Cavanagh about his favorite room at the property, and which suite guests request most often. Here’s what he had to say:
The most requested room:
All the rooms have identical interiors so the differences are in the views. People often request the Deluxe suites which enjoy partial lake views, however the Spire suites overlooking the neighboring church and gardens are the most frequent pick for return guests.
What makes it so special:
Eames lounge chairs are the focus of the suite, aligned with the gorgeous fireplaces—it encourages guests to relax. Generous balconies allow you to enjoy the morning sun in summer, or you can soak in the giant bath with the shutters opened to the suite, and take in the garden views from the tub.

It has a lovely soaring peaked ceiling, giving an even more spacious feel to the suite. I also love staying in Suite 6 with its garden and mountain view.
