When Academy Award–winning actress Mira Sorvino joins the cast of Chicago on Broadway next month, she’ll be fulfilling a lifelong dream. “Theater was my first love. I grew up mesmerized by Broadway and always imagined myself performing under those lights,” she explains. “Film became my path, but the stage has always been in my heart. When the opportunity to join Chicago came along, it felt like the perfect moment to embrace that dream.” The Mighty Aphrodite star had not previously sung in a role but while studying at Harvard, she helped found a co-ed a cappella group. “It’s exhilarating and terrifying at the same time,” she says of joining the production. “I’ve been working closely with coaches to hone the singing and choreography—it’s a completely different discipline than film. The cast and creative team have been so supportive, which makes me feel both challenged and inspired.” From September 15 through November 2, Sorvino will take on the role of Roxie Hart in the long-running Broadway musical. “To join Chicago, such a legendary show, and such an incredible cast past and present, is literally a dream come true,” she exclaims. “I hope people see my performance as a celebration of reinvention and courage. Theater is alive, it’s raw, it’s real—and I can’t wait to share that energy every night.”
