Gadget DuJour : A Sharper Image

Sharp’s new 4K TV is everything you ever wanted from a television. And plenty of things you didn’t know you needed

For those unwilling to fork over $40,000 for Samsung’s stunning 4K television, might we suggest a more-reasonably priced 4K model from Sharp? The AQUOSUltra HD LED TV—available for purchase in mid-August—offers 4K’s requisite 8 million pixels (as opposed to a regular HD TV’s 2 million pixels), plus a slew of other clever features. The 70-inch screen is equipped with sophisticated SmartCentral technology, meaning built-in apps like Netflix, Pandora, Hulu and Facebook, with a flash-enabled browser to boot. You’ll also be able to control the television through your smart phone by downloading Sharp’s “beam” app. And if 8 million pixels don’t satisfy your desire for life-like programming, the AQUOS is also 3D-capable, and comes with two sets of Bluetooth 3D glasses. AQUOS Ultra HD LED TV. Out in mid-August. $7,999
