A lush island jungle surrounded by brilliant white beaches, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru—35 minutes by seaplane from the Malé airport—is the ultimate getaway destination. Showcasing modern tropical designs by the Sri Lankan architect Murad Ismail, the property offers 103 sprawling beach, jungle and water accommodations, many with outdoor living pavilions and private lap pools.
In addition to unparalleled diving and watersports opportunities, the resort emphasizes relaxation, healing and wellness. The Spa and Ayurvedic Retreat provides an extensive yoga program and one- to three-week Ayurvedic Immersions, as well as an impressive list of treatments—including the Elakkizhi massage, which involves custom herbal oils and two therapists. Finish the day with a meal at one of four excellent restaurants (Italian-themed Blu stands out for its sunset views), followed a nightcap at Seabar, where guests can lounge on over-water hammocks and watch the lemon sharks and reef fish swimming below.
Here, the Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru’s manager Frank Wesselhoefft tells us about the most sought-after room on the property.
The most requested room:
The Beach Villa with Pool.
What makes it so special:
These villas are located on the south side of the island and are hidden down dense jungle paths. Entry to each of the 26 vast villa compounds is via a turquoise gate where coral walls and lush vegetation achieve maximum privacy, yet it’s just a few steps away from the pristine beach and an amazing snorkeling trail with colorful reefs and fishes. It has a 12-meter lap pool and a large sand-floor living pavilion with sea-gazing loft accessible via a spiral staircase—perfect for a siesta.
The rate of the Beach Villa with Pool is between $2,200 and $3,600 depending on the season. The rate is subject to 23.2% service charge and taxes.
Your personal favorite:
My favorite is the three-bedroom Landaa Estate.
It is the über-luxe tropical residence that spans across 2,000 square-meters of private quarters and grounds and has a private 80-metre white sand beach that gently slopes into the turquoise lagoon. The Estate also has two pools (one is 25-meters long, the other a plunge pool on the second floor), stargazing lounge and vast al fresco living space. It’s the ultimate in beachside escapism: a retreat that immerses guests in the exceptional beauty of the Baa Atoll.
Landaa Giraavaru is located near to renowned seasonal manta hotspots: Hanifau Bay and Baathala, where between the months of June and October guests can swim with mass aggregation of manta rays. On a good day, you can swim with up to 50 mantas! This has to be on everyone’s bucket list.
