Room Request! Hotel Nelligan

Refreshingly, the most desired room at Montreal’s foremost luxury boutique hotel isn’t where the stars sleep

Montreal in springtime—with its European style and charm that’s hard to find elsewhere—is an ideal weekend escape from winter-recovering New York. On a recent trip to the city, we chose the Hotel Nelligan, located in the historic old city, as a place to rest our weary heads. Between the property’s two courtyard atriums, cozy Verses Restaurant and inviting rooftop patio, the hotel’s a prime spot for the nicest views in Old Montreal. Below, Hotel Nelligan’s Chief Concierge Maude Blaquière tells us about the most sought-after rooms on the property.

The most in-demand room in the hotel:

“Room 505.”

What makes it so special:

“It’s very unique! It’s one of only two Petite Suites with a view of the Old Port (though we tend to keep that our little secret). Located on the top floor, the suite is very bright and does a perfect job in melding classic and contemporary. The exposed brick usually seals the deal for our guests. In fact, all of our Petite Suites are very popular. They come with electric fireplaces, walk-in showers and separate double Jacuzzis.”

Celebrity guests:

“We never name names, but I can say that Hollywood’s elite, including actors, writers and producers, have all stayed with us—not to mention athletes such as NHL players and F1 drivers. Celebrities normally stay in our penthouses, which are not—by the numbers—our most requested suites.”

Rate per night:

“The one-bedroom penthouse starts at a daily rate of $1,200 per night.”

 Your personal favorite:

“Petite Suite 406.”

Because…

“It is one’s located in the corner of the 4th floor. It’s super spacious and very bright. It features windows facing St. Paul and St. Sulpice, two of the area’s nicest, most historic streets. Another personal favorite is our one-bedroom Penthouse. It’s a lavish suite with a separate bedroom, kitchenette and living room space with a dining area. All that said, its central selling point is its private terrace, which gives guests panoramic views of the St. Laurent River and the Old Port.”

Fun fact:

“We are named after Emile Nelligan, a famed Quebecois poet with something of a tragic life story. He composed around 170 beautiful works before falling ill to a severe depression. His story is a very interesting bit of Montreal history.”
