This Is NYC’s Most Extravagant Donut

For $1,000 a dozen, these clearly aren’t your average glazed treats

A classic dessert just got a very luxurious upgrade. Executive chef Björn De La Cruz of Williamsburg’s Manila Social Club uses some of the finest ingredients to create the Golden Cristal Ube Donut. Making this sweet treat is no easy task, which is why they’ll run you $100 a piece or $1,000 a dozen and must be pre-ordered. Based on the number of orders received each Thursday night, De La Cruz makes each pastry by hand early Friday morning.

Post-frying, the donuts get filled with a one-of-a-kind mix of purple ube mousse and Cristal Champagne jelly. To finish it off, De La Cruz coats each donut with 24-karat gold, Cristal Champagne icing and intricate 24-karat gold leafing and dust. And contrary to popular belief, the high price tag comes from the Cristal, not the gold.
