Room Request! The Inn at Windmill Lane

See inside the Hamptons’ most luxurious and intimate property

A visit to The Inn at Windmill Lane in Amagansett, Long Island is like staying at the Hamptons home of a very well-to-do friend. The homey, tranquil property features seven individual suites in its main building, three private gated cottages in a perfectly-landscaped garden and its newest accommodation, the 21 House, an immaculate 3,800-square-foot, four-bedroom private home that features four wood-burning fireplaces and private spa and gym.

The hotel offers guests a daily gourmet continental breakfast served in a gorgeous kitchen in the main house, a state-of-the-art fitness center, billiards room, 24-hour concierge services, beach transportation, parking passes, beach chairs and cruiser bicycles. The sumptuous linens are Matouk and the mattresses and pillows are King Duxiana (it’s hard to get out of bed), and each accommodation has at least one wood-burning fireplace, which we used even in September!

The resort also debuted a new, techy in-room dining concept called Gourmet Guestrooms, which allows guests to experience local cuisine via a private, high-end delivery service. One can order food straight from an iPad (via digital concierge service Incentient), which feature a plethora of Amagansett and East Hampton restaurants—The Meeting House, Fresno and the East Hampton Grill, to name a few. The Inn will re-plate the delivered meal on beautiful chinaware and serve to guests’ doors for an intimate, in-room dining experience.

Also of note this fall, the hotel is hosting two vino-focused Wine Harvest Weekends (October 23rd and November 6th), where the property will collaborate with the South Fork’s best local vineyards, Channing Daughters Winery and Wölffer Estate Vineyard. So there’s lots to love about this year-round escape.

Since February, the property is being managed by the charming hospitality veteran Edward Villafane (formerly with the five-star, five-diamond Ocean House in Watch Hill). Below, he tells us about the most sought-after room on the property.

The most requested room:
Our guests do have their own individual favorites, but Suite No. 1 is the most requested.

What makes it so special:
It’s a duplex that also has a private outdoor seating area as well as an incredible bathroom with a deep soaking tub. It is the most requested because it is the farthest Cottage on our property and offers the most privacy.

The rate:
Around $750-$1,650 per night, depending on the season.

Your personal favorite:
My personal favorite is Cottage No. 1.

Because
It feels like a stand-alone home, because it is a duplex with plenty of space for a family. It is the largest of our Cottages and very private.

Celebrity guests:
Being situated in the heart of the Hamptons, we do attract a very high profile guest including many celebrities. They come to stay with us for the privacy and seclusion so we keep that information close to heart!

Fun fact:
The property features curated artwork from the Inn’s privately-owned collection featuring well-known local and international artists. Artwork from English Painter Humphrey Ocean’s collection can be seen throughout the Inn. In fact, his iconic etching, Black Love Chair, can be found in the common room. This piece of art appeared on the cover of local resident Sir Paul McCartney’s 2007 album, “Memory Almost Full.”
