Sotheby’s Will Auction Custom Trunks

Bidding starts at $100k

Hermès, Saint Louis, Puiforcat and renowned cognac brand Louis XIII have created three custom trunks in their ultra-luxe L’Odyssée d’un Roi collaboration, celebrating Louis XIII’s compelling history of travel. The trunks, which house a bespoke cognac decanter and stunning crystal glasses, hit the auction block at Sotheby’s this month. The decanter and four Saint Louis glasses feature an engraved 19th century map charting the first travels of Louis XIII. With the trunk comes a luxurious cognac blend, a special mix of Louis XIII and Grande Champagne, as well as a hand-forged white gold pipette by Puiforcat. Hermès produced the trunk itself, with their craftsmen hand-stitching each trunk at the Hermès Atelier. Each of the three pieces represent a different continent: North America, Europe and Asia. Over 50 artisans devoted more than 1,000 hours to the production of these three one-of-a-kind masterpieces.

Buyers in New York can bid on the North American trunk on September 10th at Sotheby’s. The Asia trunk hits the auction block at Sotheby’s Hong Kong on October 1st, followed by the European trunk at Sotheby’s London on November 16th. Bidding starts at $100,000, with the money benefiting Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation.
