The Most Beautiful Thing in the World Today: A Rooftop Garden

Peter D. Gerakaris’ sky-high installation brings beauty to the top of The Surrey Hotel

Just in time for the Frieze New York art fair, the Upper East Side’s Surrey Hotel—a luxurious destination known for its impressive art collection—will debut “Floating Garden,” an eye-popping mixed-media rooftop installation by Peter D. Gerakaris.

The colorful artwork—which is included in ArtSpeak previews during Frieze week and will open officially May 20—covers three sides of the rooftop’s famous garden, and is inspired not only botanicals but also the natural world through an urban lens. And when you’re done appreciating Gerakaris’ stunning work, the view that the Upper East Side perch offers is an equally amazing treat for the senses.
