With Portugal on everyone’s must-visit list this year, we decided to stop by the new Porto Bay Liberdade during a stopover in the country’s magical capital city. Right off of Lisbon’s main thoroughfare, Avenida da Liberdade, sits a five-star urban retreat complete with spa, indoor swimming pool and rooftop bar. It also features a restaurant, Bistrô4, known for its updated take on Portugal’s fusion “bistronomy.” Every detail has been accounted for in this 98-room hotel, from the restoration of its antique façade, to the soothing room appointments, to the first-rate service. After trips to the bohemian bairro alto neighborhood, and this exquisite private museum, the Porto Bay Liberdade was a perfect launch point to discover Lisbon’s old world charms.
Here, General Manager Sílvia Rio gives us the lowdown on the hotel’s most sought-afterrooms:
The most requested room:
The requests are normally for a quiet room with a balcony.
What makes it so special:
The balconies help one to relax even though you are in the middle of the city. Some balconies are large enough to fit sun beds, which gives this city hotel a certain hint of a resort experience.
The rate:
Depending on the time the year, between 265€ and 380€/per night.
Your personal favorite:
Room 205
Because…
As entering the hall to get to the room, you feel like you have your own private access. The cozy room has large windows, which belong to the antique facade, allowing a lot of light into the room.
Fun facts:
The historic façade of this Lisbon palacete dates back to the turn of the 20th century, and many architectural details such as staircases, ceilings and arched windows were maintained.
