A decade ago, an 85-million Euro renovation transformed the Palais Coburg, built between 1840 and 1845 in classicist style atop a former bastion, into a property that boasts both a rich history and modern luxuries. Today the intimate hotel offers 35 totally individual suites, multiple salon halls, six wine cellars with 60,000 bottles (think cases of 1975 Petrus), the two-Michelin-starred Silvio Nickol Gourmet Restaurant and the Basteigarten, where breakfast and lunch are served in a light-filled pavilion. The only Relais & Châteaux property in Vienna has played host to many special events (including the worldwide launch of the Rolls Royce Wraith automobile this past September) and has seen its share of business tycoons and celebrities (Mark Zuckerberg was recently spotted at the property).
We spoke with the property’s general manager, Roland Hamberger, about the dramatic spaces therein.
