What are your top three tips for decorating children’s bedrooms?
Don’t pay attention to age. It’s important to acknowledge that children won’t stay young forever. Designing a room that’s more sophisticated than your child’s current age allows you to create a space that will grow with them.
Highlight your child’s personality. By incorporating elements of their character into an elevated design, you create a space that speaks to your child without ignoring the overall style of your home.
Don’t be afraid of color. Children love color. It’s more exciting and creates a sense of play that is essential in a children’s room.
What color palettes work best?
I like to choose defined, darker colors for boys’ rooms as they add more depth to the space. Boys always like blues, greys and chocolates as they are more intense and visually interesting to the eye.
For girls’ rooms, whether I go with light blues or pinks, I always add layers and intricate details. It creates an element of playfulness while maintaining the feminine style girls always love.
Wallpaper or paint?
Wallpaper, always wallpaper. It helps create a room’s personality with textures that add depth and interest to the space. I love using pretty, elaborate wallpaper for girls’ rooms and metallic, suede or leather for boys’ rooms.
What are some tips for buying furniture?
Since furniture is often an investment piece, you need to consider its future. Opt for more neutral colors and classic styles that are timeless and transcend current styles.
What’s your favorite room you’ve designed thus far?
I love the pink room featured [in the photo above]. It’s such an over-the-top French extravaganza with layers upon layers of intricate detail. It is perfect for a princess.
