It’s no wonder the designers of the Mandarin Oriental New York opted for floor-to-ceiling windows—the property, situated at the southwest corner of Central Park, promises some of the city’s most breathtaking views. The hotel opened its doors in 2003, occupying the top 19 floors of Manhattan’s Time Warner Center, and has since become a gorgeous towering fixture of Columbus Circle. Of the Mandarin’s 244 rooms, one standout suite draws guest requests most often. The hotel’s General Manager Susanne Hatje shares the details below.
Most requested room in the hotel:
“The Central Park View Suite.”
What makes it special:
“It has panoramic views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline—it’s the definition of an urban retreat. The spacious suite is located on the southwest corner of the hotel and welcomes guests with its contemporary design and sunrise to sunset views of New York City. There’s an expansive sitting area with a dining table that makes the suite ideal for gatherings. For relaxing, the bedroom features a cozy chaise lounge and a selection of books to choose from.”
“While aren’t able to divulge names of guests at the hotel, we are always proud to mention our loyal Mandarin Oriental fans—a collection of 26 international celebrity personalities who are regular visitors to Mandarin Oriental hotels including Liam Neeson, Helen Mirren, Christian Louboutin and Kevin Spacey.”
Your personal favorite:
“The Taipan Suite.”
“The Taipan Suite is one of the hotel’s collection of signature suites and a completely custom designed space. The two-bedroom suite is a quiet hideaway at the top of the hotel with calming views of the Hudson River and the west side of Manhattan. The contemporary design gives the space a residential feel, and Chinese artifacts and original paintings give the suite a touch of our Oriental heritage.”
“The Five-Star Spa on the 35th floor of the hotel features a ‘spa-within-a-spa.’ A unique 650 square-foot spa suite designed for two people is furnished with dual massage beds, fireplace and its own steam room and soaking tub. To top off the experience is a private relaxation area with a traditional kang-style bed. This spa suite was the first of its kind in New York City.”
