Lea Journo Off-Duty

The celebrity hairstylist joins forces with a few top creatives for her latest after-hours project. DuJour takes a look

It certainly pays to know Lea Journo. Not only does she coiff hair by day at her salon at the Four Seasons Beverly Wilshire hotel—Natalie Portman, Brad Pitt and Kate Bosworth are among her clients—she masterminds creative collaborations in her off hours. Journo just joined forces with hair stylist Marc Bensemhoun and together enlisted a few top industry professionals to bring to life the sophistication—and sexiness—of the ’70s in a photo shoot they entitled “La Boom.”

On a recent afternoon at the Beverly Wilshire, fashion stylist Joey Tierne—who met Journo a decade ago when both were touring with Britney Spears—was busy adorning Wilhelmina models with statement baubles. Jessie Malakouti, who just signed to Capitol Records with her band Jessie and the Toy Boys, was also on hand as a guest model. Malakouti, who often works with Journo’s salon for music video shoots, told DuJour: “I really wanted to be a part of this. It seemed like a lot of fun because of the cool community vibe at the salon.”

A true team effort, the shoot drew on the efforts and ideas of all the creative talent involved. In the words of Robbie LaRiviere, a hair stylist-turned-fashion assistant on set for the day: “This photo shoot is the epitome of all things Lea Journo.”
