Farm Fresh

Local agriculture makes its way to the big city

Last week dozens of New York City’s fresh food enthusiasts gathered in the soft light of ABCMKT, congregating among the store’s uniquely curated table settings to enjoy local, seasonal bites from farmsteads in the Hudson Valley. Many of these folks are friends, because they’re here every other week—picking up their assorted shares of fresh bounty, shuttled straight from small farms. This artisanal venture is the product of a partnership between ABC Kitchen’s Community Supported Agriculture program and the FarmOn! foundation, and it’s a club with perks. Along with the varied organic produce each member receives, each share also includes recipes, tips and demonstrations from Chef Jean-Georges, as well as exclusive reservation access to all ABC restaurants and invites to “Meet Your Farmer” events. So if you think there’s nothing better than holding a fresh egg in your hand and feeling that last trace of rich, earthy soil on the shell, there is a place in New York City for you.

Check out the action for yourself at one of FarmOn!’s upcoming summer events:
