Southern Hospitality for Francisco Costa

SCAD honors the Calvin Klein Collection creative director with a retrospective at the Museum of Art

The Savannah College of Art and Design honored Francisco Costa with the André Talley Lifetime Achievement Award last week in Georgia. Costa, the women’s creative director of Calvin Klein Collection, is the latest in a long line of renowned designers including Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta and Karl Lagerfeld to receive the award.

The SCAD Museum of Art is also hosting an exhibit of Costa’s designs to complement the award. “Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein Collection” will run at the museum until September 15th and features looks from Costa’s Spring 2013 collection, as well as a retrospective of custom dresses designed for major red carpet events including Gwyneth Paltrow’s metallic embroidered sheath dress from the 2011 Acedemy Awards and Jennifer Lawrence’s gunmetal beaded dress from this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

SCAD graduates submitted their collections in a juried competition judged by industry insiders, including DuJour‘s own co-editor-in-chief Keith Pollock. Students with exemplary collections, such as Michelle Leal, whose design is pictured here, were invited to present in the annual SCAD fashion show.
