Glamping in the City

Why leave the urban jungle now that the high-end camping trend has officially arrived in New York?

Traditional wilderness camping received an up-market facelift with the advent of “glamping” several years ago, but now the trend has made its way to the city. Fifth Avenue hotel AKA has introduced a five-star glamping experience for city-dwellers in their penthouse suite. The “bedroom under the stars” package—located on a 1,000-square-foot terrace – features a plush Queen-sized bed beside a wood-burning fireplace, and amenities like a one-hour couples’ massage, an al fresco dining room from Quality Meats, a plasma-screen TV, a private music performance, a telescope for stargazing, and midnight snacks from Jacques Torres and Veuve Cliquot. The outdoor bedroom experience starts at $1,999 per night and is available Memorial Day through Labor Day.
