“I had been told by a publicist friend that Columbia Records was about to drop Katy Perry and that this girl is going to be a star. I was immediately taken with everything about her; the way she carried herself, she was already a star and my radar went off. Then I got the whole back-story of how she was raised and I was like, ‘OK, that’s amazing.’ Then I found out she has a cat named Kitty Purry, and I was totally sold. I’m not a cat person at all, I’m a dog person, but if you’re going to have a cat, you may as well name it Kitty Purry.”
