Presented by the creators of You Are So Lucky, William Etundi, Jr. and Kevin Balktick, and MATTE Projects, the season’s most mysterious night was bound to be one to remember. Held on Friday, October 26 on Governors Island, the details for the immersive experience were unveiled just three days prior to the anticipated evening. With over 300 performers, over 5,000 attendees and costumes that rivaled even the most seductive Halloween party, How Did Our Dreams End Up Like This embodied adventurous interpretations of darkness and lightness.
The main event was held in the three-story former hospital, built in 1917. With several other buildings taken over by How Did Our Dreams End Up Like This, the night was as immersive as it was expansive. Guests were encouraged to explore and gallivant through the once-abandoned halls of the hospital to find surprise performance art or an unexpected dance floor filled with costumed attendees. Notable attendees included musician Lily Allen, director Darren Aronofsky and Sports Illustrated models Nina Agdal and Brooks Nader.
There was a lively spirit pulsing throughout Governors Island, rich in acceptance, cultural curiosity and creativity. For one-night only, guests were able to celebrate art, music and each other; in whatever way they were driven to.
