Certain things are a given when I travel. For one, I have a terrible habit of checking my bag, no matter how long the trip. The one piece of carry-on I take without fail, however, is my Patagonia backpack. It’s sleek, well designed and capable of getting a little rugged – it just holds up!
I’m always sure to pack some new standards, such as my noise cancelling headphones, a memory phone neck pillow and my Kindle. However, on the plane I love reading a paperback. There’s something about slipping the pages that relaxes me and helps me go to sleep. The last book I took with me was “Offshore,” by Penelope Fitzgerald.
I like to bring a scent on board since sometimes the cabin can get a little stuffy. I usually just put a little dab on my wrists and by the neck pillow. A good scent makes a big difference, and it’s nice to have something travel sized like this Blackbird Moto Oud.
After long flights it’s nice to have something with you that makes you ready to hit the ground running upon arrival. These Desert Essence Tea Tree Oil wipes do the trick and make me feel fresh and awake, wherever I’ve landed.
I’m a lip balm fiend, and this Aesop stuff is my favorite. It’s got Zinc Oxide in it to help protect against the sun, precious stuff in the summer or when headed beachside.
Lastly, I always try to pick up something from wherever I’ve been to (I’ve got a pretty good refrigerator magnet collection going). What’s really nice is finding local brand goods that you can use regularly during your travels. I got this passport wallet in Brazil from a Brazilian brand called Victor Hugo. It’s great in that I can keep extra credit cards in it in case of an emergency, and I always know where my passport is. It’s an everyday thing, but when I use it I'm reminded of my time spent in South America.
