To be honest, I think both, Tallinn and Riga are absolutely gorgeous. I think I have never taken so many photos of a city like I did in Riga. I loved the Art Nouveau architecture. Riga is so easy to explore as almost all sights and pretty parts of the town are in close walking distance. If your feed get tired you’ll find plenty of small Cafes or local bakeries to recharge your energy. Speaking of bakeries, if you visit Riga don’t miss the chance to try Latvian pastries. Seriously delicious.
On our way from Riga to Vilnius we made an overnight stay in Nida, a resort town in Lithuania and home to some of the highest sand dunes in Europe. The landscape is really breathtaking and the local cuisine offers plenty of fresh fish options and one of my Lithuanian favourites, cold beetroot soup with warm potatoes.
A foodie highlight in Vilnius is to visit local markets and market halls. July is berry season and I’ve probably never seen so many different kinds of berries like in the Baltic States. If I had to pick a favourite (which is almost impossible) I’d choose wild blueberries. They are much smaller than the normal ones but the flavour and smell is so much more intense.
Exploring and discovering Vilnius was full of surprises. I didn’t expect much of the city but got really excited about it once we had our first stroll around the city center. We went to hip Cafes and cool design shops and beautiful parks and delicious veggie spots. Vegafé and Kitchen is where you should go when you crave healthy, nourishing but super yummy food.
