“Preloaded with a few favorite movies and a season's worth of a TV show I've been meaning to watch. I'll download a couple of good books and plenty of magazines. Wifi is reliably unreliable when traveling. By making sure I have things preloaded, I always have something to entertain me during the inevitable delays or sleepless nights,” Fulk says. “Currently I have The Man From Uncle and Amy in the movie cue and Patti Smith's M Train set for a read.”
“An iPhone is great for many things, but nothing replaces the classic functional watch I've had since my early twenties. It never leaves my wrist,” Fulk says. “It's waterproof, so there's no worries when I decide to impulsively dive into the sea for a swim as I'm prone to do—best jet-lag cure known to man. At night, when I inevitably want to know the time, a mere flip of the wrist and the glow in the dark dial confirms I need to go back to sleep. No bright glaring screen to disturb you.”
“An extra pair of cashmere socks. I'm forever cold on a plane,” Fulk says. “The simple joy of removing my shoes and the small luxury of warm feet surprisingly goes a long way in making a flight more enjoyable.”
“A gift from a friend many years ago—the simple act of placing a frame with pics of my husband and our four dogs on the bureau in my hotel room makes me feel at home regardless of the locale,” he says. “I once read that folks who display pictures of friends and family are happier because looking at them reminds you of good times and people we love. It works for me!”
