In homage to New York City’s architectural past, Tibi[1] designer Amy Smilovic headed 90 miles north to Stony Creek Quarry. “I’d been looking around for natural settings that would be nearby,” she says of the historic construction site. Located in Branford, CT the outdoor space of exposed granite (with rock formations dating as far back as 650 million years) once provided the foundation to some of New York’s greatest landmarks—the Statue of Liberty and Grand Central Station are just two examples.
Shot by Brooklyn-based photographer Reed Young the “muted, gray backdrop coupled with its rural setting and strong industrial history was an ideal match for fall,” Smilovic says. It brought a “unique, hand-made element to the campaign,” she explains, highlighting Tibi’s collection of striped print sweaters, pleated leather skirts and knee-high boots in relaxed silhouettes. Price points range from $175 (for soft, oversized scarves—a popular pick) to $1,200 full leather skirts.
