The world of style is a rapidly spinning cycle of designer collaborations, label shakeups and seasonal trend reports. For the fashion inclined who don’t have time to sift through the style-blog beast, we’ve rounded up the latest need-to-know newsmakers. Here are the high points in style for the week of July 8th:
The Gems: Swarovski’s latest high-fashion match up is with Mason Martin Margiela, a label known for its eye-catching and edgy wares. The more expensive pieces in the haute couture collection debuted over the weekend at Margiela’s couture show in Paris, but unlike their commercial counterparts, these jewels weren’t worn around the neck or wrist. For the runway, pieces made with Swarovski Elements crystals were tied around the heels of the boots (pictured) worn by each model. Couture crystal spurs anyone? WWD.
The Designer: Joseph Altuzarra has been granted the International Woolmark Prize, an honor that comes with $100,000 and makes him the U.S. representative in the international competition during Milan Fashion Week in February. Altuzarra’s rise to fame has been somewhat meteoric, so it wasn’t a huge surprise he came out on top. (He did, however, have some stellar competition, which included young labels like Wes Gordon, Creatures of the Wind and Timo Weiland). Style.com.
The High-Low: H&M is no stranger to mad fans bum rushing the stores to get their hands on the latest designer collaboration (i.e. the Lanvin and Versace craziness), but now the store might just have even more hype on their hands. A few weeks ago, the store announced that Parisian designer and It-girl obsession Isabel Marant would be creating a collection out November 14th. With excitement already building as she tweeted a photo of herself in one of the chic dresses this week, it was also just revealed that the line will include menswear, a first for the in-demand designer. Fashionista.
The Trend: With the Paris couture shows having wrapped up over the weekend, we’ve seen incredibly imaginative pieces from the likes of Dior, Valentino and Chanel. And though the spectacles are typically reserved for the runways, there was plenty of provocative dressing out on the sidewalks. Spotting shutter stars like Carine Roitfeld and Anna Dello Russo wearing surreal ensembles, this is a perfect snapshot of the best street style from fall ’13 couture week. The Cut.
