Stella’s Asian Invasion

There’s no shortage of European fashion brands making their mark in Asia, but one such label just spent the last several days making one very memorable splash. In her usual cheeky manner, Stella McCartney celebrated the opening of her first Shanghai boutique in Parkview Green Mall by inviting guests to indulge in pints of dark lager and Pimms cups while British pop music played overhead. And if one store opening wasn’t enough, just days before, McCartney made a stop in Tokyo to cut the ribbon at her second outpost there.

The biggest showcasing of the “Stella World” however was during a black tie dinner and presentation in Shanghai later that week. Held at the Astor House Hotel[1], the event was a spectacle of beautiful clothing from McCartney’s Fall ’13 collection[2], plus a slew of performances by contortionists, jazz musicians and ballroom dancers for an extravaganza that was anything but industry standard.
