Accessory DuJour : New York Fashion Week Spring ’14

From Thakoon’s Tasaki pearls to Victoria Beckham’s modern carryall, 5 major accents from the first 5 days of Fashion Week

There’s always a touch more playfulness during the spring shows, and this season at New York Fashion Week is no exception—especially in the accessories department. It’s a little over halfway through and thus far, there’s been no shortage of smart, structured handbags, ladylike heels with edge and extras like jewelry and sunglasses destined to be the conversation starters of 2014.

Below, we’ve pulled out the best of the bunch: five pieces that add just the right amount of cool to some already stellar collections.

Victoria Beckham’s Top Handle Bag

For an overall collection based on “shape,” Beckham hit the nail on the head with these geo-inspired, black-and-white top handle bags. It’s a fresh, updated take on the ladylike carryall that’s made a serious comeback over the last year.

Altuzarra’s Open Choker

Philip Crangi collaborated with Joseph Altuzarra to create the simple, spiraled bronze choker. The statement piece leant nicely to a collection that aired on the side of effortlessness. Just off the announcement of Kering’s stake in his company http://dujour.com/2013-09/1596/nyfw-spring-2014-conversation-starters and another heralded collection, Altuzarra’s spin on spring jewelry was the perfect icing on a well-deserved cake.

Delpozo’s Metallic Heel

Expertly blending feminine shapes with metallic edge, Delpozo’s runway heels are as covetable as they are wearable—a trait not always associated with the couture-like label. As if we needed another reason to love designer Josep Font http://dujour.com/2013-09/1598/delpozo-spring-2014-josep-font and the always elegant Spanish house of Delpozo.

Prabal Gurung’s Cat-Eye Sunglasses

There’s no better accouterment to mid-century modern clothing than a pair of cat-eye shades and in Prabal’s spring 2014 collection, they packed just the right amount of punch. Created with Linda Farrow, the exaggerated eyewear worked wonders when worn with pieces like printed pastels and PVC pencil skirts.

Thakoon’s Pearl Strap Bag

Is it a bag? A Necklace? A bracelet? Thakoon’s latest project with Tasaki pearls is all three. The delicate cross body bag can be draped around the neck, bundled around the wrist or slung on the shoulder for one of the designer’s most inventive accessories to date.
