Watch & Learn: Russell Westbrook’s Zenith

The comeback kid’s cool new timepiece

Everything about NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook is unique. On the court, the Olympic gold medalist is a dynamic and relentless force. On the red carpet, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard is known for his avant-garde fashion sense. At this year’s ESPY Awards, where Westbrook was named best comeback athlete after recovering from three knee operations, host Drake paid homage to the athlete by walking onstage in a bright yellow vest, bow tie and green pants.

It’s not surprising that style trendsetters want to team up with Westbrook.  He just launched a new clothing collection, Westbrook-XO-Barneys New York, and he collaborated with Swiss watchmaker Zenith on a limited edition timepiece. We spotted him pairing his new watch with an elephant print ensemble at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards.

The name of the watch is the Pilot Montre d’Aéronef Type 20 Annual Calendar Tribute to Russell Westbrook. It is big (with an impressive 48 mm by 15.80 mm stainless steel case), bold (it’s got a bright blue dial and alligator strap) and strong (it’s powered by one of the most illustrious watch movements in the history of horology—the El Primero caliber 4054). It’s also easy to read and features functions such as small seconds and an annual calendar.

Of course this tribute is also unique in that Zenith only made five (one of which belongs to Westbrook) and they are available exclusively at Westime, Zenith’s LA distributor. But any model from The Pilot Montre d’Aéronef collection, which launched in 2013, is destined to be a future legend—just like Westbrook.
