Watch & Learn: Prince William’s Omega Seamaster

The man second in line to the British Crown knows a thing or two about tradition. So it’s not surprising that Prince William, Duke of Cambridge  is a one-watch man. Whether he’s posing for an informal family portrait with wife Kate and baby George or—like the Royal Family did this week—visiting the Sydney Opera House[1], he is always wearing his Omega Seamaster[2].

The Seamaster in his majesty’s not-so-secret service is also known as the James Bond. Like 007, the timepiece is iconic because it is versatile and rugged enough for just about any situation. Introduced 1948 as a line of water-resistant dress-style watches, a decade later a dive watch version was introduced (Prince William is also a Royal Air Force helicopter pilot who has been involved in more than one dramatic at-sea rescue).

Prince William’s Professional model is a chronometer with a blue dial and steel case, battery-less quartz movement and is water resistant to 300m. Royal watch watchers will note that Prince William’s timepiece is a mid-sized model. That is because it said to have been a gift from his mother, the late Diana Spencer.
