When we think about Oscar de la Renta, we often picture the beautiful and impressive women he dressed, from Jacqueline Kennedy and Michelle Obama to Beyoncé and Sarah Jessica Parker. But as OSCAR DE LA RENTA: His Legendary World of Style[1] (Rizzoli) makes abundantly clear, the late designer’s six-decade career[2] was about more than just those moments in the spotlight.

In the new book, a collaboration between the Savannah College of Art and Design’s Museum of Art and de la Renta pal André Leon Talley, the entire arc of the designer’s career is charted, from work under Cristóbal Balenciaga to the red-carpet looks[3] that more recently captured our attention. Readers can pour over more than 70 dresses that exhibit de la Renta’s charm and attention to detail.
