This week, we take a peek two months into the future with Canadian actress Jessica Paré’s cool new time machine—the Baume & Mercier Promesse. The Mad Men star’s watch is part of the Swiss company’s first women’s collection in 15 years, and it will hit the shops in September.
Stylistically, this watch also travels back to the past. Just as Paré’s Mad Men character Megan favors fashions that recall such free-spirited and sexy stars of the 1970s as Jane Fonda, Dyan Cannon and Ali McGraw, this timepiece also references the modes of the “me” decade. In fact, the Promesse’s designers found inspiration for details such as the oval-shaped bezel and mother of pearl dial by researching unconventional looks from that era found in Baume & Mercier’s vaults.
Although the basic architecture of the collection is distinctively elegant, the Promesse’s endless stylistic options make it tremendously easy for the wearer to personalize. For example, it’s available in a variety of finishes: with or without diamonds, with mother of pearl or Guilloche dials and on a metal or black alligator strap. You can also choose between a 30mm and 34mm case and an automatic or quartz movement. Like Paré herself, the Promesse projects mid-century glamour and sophistication but with a forward thinking take on femininity.
