Onstage, up-and-coming country music sensation Drake White is known for his foot-stomping, hard-rocking live shows. The Alabama-native also stands out with his casual style. Most often dressed in denim, chambray shirts and a cattleman’s hat, his signature look could be described as badass, bohemian cowboy.
Earlier this month in Nashville, White was also spotted sporting a Raymond Weil Special Edition Nabucco Inspired By Gibson chronograph. The singer was in town to perform at a private concert for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation—an organization that helps restore music education programs with the donation of instruments.
For those who like to geek out on both timepieces and guitars (and we know that there are a lot of you out there), this collaboration between Raymond Weil (an independent, family-run luxury watchmaker) and Gibson (makers of iconic musical instruments) is a marriage made in collector heaven.
A Raymond Weil Special Edition Nabucco Inspired By Gibson watch
The Nabucco is Raymond Weil’s signature sport watch. The self-tuning SG Standard, Gibson’s iconic guitar series and an axe wielded by guitar heroes like Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa, inspired this limited-edition version of the Nabucco. This self-winding timepiece features a polished steel and titanium case with a gray ceramic tachometer bezel which houses a black galvanic dial encircled by six grooves symbolizing the strings of the SG Standard. The Gibson company name and logo is displayed at 12 o’clock.
When the SG was first introduced, musicians were attracted by the guitar’s cutaways and slimmed down profile. These innovations made the instrument lighter and faster to play. When we first examined the Special Edition Nabucco at Baselworld last March, we were impressed how details such as the titanium case and black rubber band made this very substantial, 46mm watch lighter and easier to wear.
All in all, the Raymond Weil Special Edition Nabucco Inspired By Gibson works well with White’s hipster look because it is a little bit country and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll.
