Wednesday night’s Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors NBA matchup at Boston’s TD Garden saw Celtics superfan Mark Wahlberg sitting courtside, which the Garden announced by outing the former Funky Bunch team captain on the Jumbotron to the tune of “Good Vibrations,” (which will obviously haunt him for all eternity).
But Wahlberg wasn’t the only bit o’ Irish excitement in the house. This week also marked the debut of team partner Alex and Ani[1]’s latest Charity by Design collaboration featuring the Kindred Cord Shamrock[2] bracelet, a tiny, silver or gold shamrock on a Celtics-green cord. Twenty percent of the proceeds from sales of the bracelets will benefit the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation,[3] the team’s non-profit dedicated to supporting New England youth through arts and other programs. The previous collaboration[4] between the Celtics and the Rhode Island-based jeweler raised more than $500,000 for kids. That’s equivalent to about 5.8 regular season games[5] for starting point guard Isaiah Thomas, who earned his keep as he led his team to a 91-79 victory over Toronto before taking the opportunity of Wahlberg’s visit to offer himself up[6] for an upcoming film role. Everyone wins!
