The New $40,000 It Bag

For the price of Louis Vuitton’s new bags, here’s just how much luxe you can buy

Louis Vuitton Spring is all about excess and extravagance for spring 2014: The label’s now touting handbags that go for $20,000 to $40,000 a pop. Upping the ante on their already high price tags and super rich materials, Vuitton’s latest collection of accessories give new meaning to the term splurge item. Made with peacock feathers, Swarovski crystals and alligator skin, the range of bags are debuting at a time when the brand is in need of a sales push—numbers have been down steadily since 2012.

So will Vuitton’s answer to the Birkin rack up some extra cash in-house? Only time, and marketable shock value, will tell. Until then, we at DuJour have gathered several splurge-worthy spring pieces, all of which total the price of one of Vuitton’s new covetable bags. Here’s what $40k looks like spent on not one, but nine of spring’s hottest trends.
