In the bathroom
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Kate Winslet revealed that she keeps her Oscar for The Reader in the bathroom. Now her guests can have a chance to bask in their own imaginary glory.
“The whole point is for everybody to pick it up and go, ‘I’d like to thank my son and my dad’—and you can always tell when someone has, because they’re in there a little bit longer after they flushed,” Winslet said. “They’ll come out looking slightly pink-cheeked. It’s hysterical.”
Jodie Foster also has mentioned keeping her two trophies, for Best Actress in a Leading Role in The Accused and Silence of the Lambs, in her bathroom because “they looked good with the faucets.”
With the Chickens
Russell Crowe’s Oscar for leading role in Gladiator is kept in a chicken coop on his ranch in Australia. Maybe he believes his golden man will help get him some golden eggs.
In the kitchen
Jared Leto keeps his Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Dallas Buyers Club in the cabinets right next to a bag of popcorn and his stash of vegan butter.
“That is the first place I go when I go home, you put your keys down, you take off your jacket and you put your Oscar in your kitchen,” he told Entertainment Tonight Canada.
Timothy Hutton—the youngest person to win an Oscar for best supporting actor—and his sister committed the ultimate party foul. During a party they were hosting, his sister decided to put the award next to the beers in the fridge. He told USA Today, “She thought that would be kind of funny to put the Oscar in the refrigerator when people would go grab a beer.” Rumor has it that it’s still in there.
At the vacation home
Catherine Zeta Jones’s Bermuda vacation retreat is home to her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Chicago. “He’s in our home in Bermuda,” she explained to InStyle. “I figured that not many Oscars have lived there. Of course, everyone who visits wants a photograph with him.”
In the bedroom
Adruitha Lee, who won this golden trophy for the makeover of the Dallas Buyers Club stars, wanted to keep a watchful eye on her Oscar. She confessed to reporters backstage, “I’m going to sleep with it.”
Missing in action
Susan Sarandon’s Oscar for Best Actress in Dead Man Walking has been in The Museum of Natural History’s traveling Gold exhibit. “I haven’t seen it in a few years,” confessed Sarandon to The Hollywood Reporter.
Gwyneth Paltrow has kept her Oscar for leading role in Shakespeare in Love stored in a safe place. She told Contact Music: “For weeks after I won, I kept it in storage…I won’t even put it on the mantelpiece, the thing freaks me out.”
