Uber Takes Flight at Sundance

Instant helicopter service is just a click away

Forget hailing a cab and sitting in standstill traffic during one of the year’s hottest film festivals. Uber is amping up its services if you’re willing to dish out serious cash for a minutes-long ride. The company is partnering up with Airbus on a trial on-demand helicopter service launching at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

The pilot program with let Sundance attendees hail choppers between the Salt Lake City airport and a landing pad in Park City, with just a click of a button on the Uber app. Each trip runs $200 during the day and $300 a night, with an Uber SUV to and from the landing pads included.

This isn’t the first time Uber has tested out helicopter services for its users that desire speedier transportation. At last year’s Cannes Film Festival, it flew ‘UberCopters’ to the heart of Cannes. And in 2013, Uber chartered ‘copters from New York City to East Hampton before the Fourth of July for $3,000. While Uber hasn’t announced plans to make helicopter services permanent, this partnership with Airbus looks like a step in the right direction for luxury travelers.
