Most people don’t go to the nation’s capital for the hotels, but the Palomar Washington D.C., a Kimpton Hotel is an exception to the rule. An easy walk to both the townhouse-lined streets of Georgetown and the historic landmarks around the National Mall, the 335-room hotel on the edge of Dupont Circle offers the convenience of a city stay with the personalized attention of something far more intimate. There’s morning yoga, Kimpton’s trademark evening wine hour and an all-knowing concierge happy to share the latest can’t-miss attractions. Guests can also retreat to the second floor’s secluded brick-lined courtyard with a 40-foot outdoor heated lap pool and sun deck with cabanas and lounge chairs.

What makes it so special:
They are spacious (650-square-foot) two-room suites which feature a king bed with sitting area, luxurious bathroom lined with Italian marble flooring and granite vanities, a Fuji soaking tub and a glass shower. The separate living room area has a pullout couch, an additional flat screen TV and a large desk and workspace that’s great for business travelers. People love this room because of the extra space and the marble bathrooms with jetted tubs and separate shower.

The Presidential Suite.
The hotel’s largest suite includes a dining room, separate powder room and hardwood floors throughout plus a living room with a seating area and pullout sofa, an extra flat screen television and large workspace. It can also be connected to form a two or three bedroom suite for groups or families that need extra space.

Chef Ethan McKee, the chef at the hotel’s Urbana Dining & Drinks, tends to a full rooftop garden atop the hotel. While only staff is able to access the roof, this is the second year the rooftop garden has been active, and it has grown to 31 boxes, or 800 square feet of garden space, including a compost barrel. Everything in the garden, including the boxes, fertilizer, soil and seeds, are 100 percent organic. Right now, 100 percent of the herbs being used in the kitchen for restaurant dining for Urbana, in-room dining at Hotel Palomar and events throughout the hotel are being sourced from the rooftop garden. This year, about 450 pounds of produce have been harvested!
