Room Request! The Rosewood Mayakoba

Take a look inside the largest private villa in the Riviera Maya—and find out which A-list celebrity recently stayed there

At Rosewood Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, each of the hotel’s 130 stand-alone suites is outfitted with a private pool, rooftop terrace and boat deck, plus beautiful views of the sweeping lagoon the resort is built over. But there’s one villa in particular that stands out from the rest, consistently drawing the most requests from travelers. The second you see it, you’ll understand why celebrities like Jessica Alba (who recently paid a visit to the property for a family getaway) find Rosewood Mayakoba to be the perfect balance of privacy and luxury. What’s more, the hotel has a championship 18-hole golf course, a sushi restaurant and a tequila bar, which staffs expert tequiliers to lead tastings of over 100 different labels. We caught up with Graeme Davis, Regional Vice President and Managing Director for the Rosewood Mayakoba, for the inside scoop on the resort’s most requested room.

The most requested room:

Casa Laguna

Because…

Casa Laguna, which is situated on its own private lagoon with views stretching to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, combines the private escape of a personal villa with all the services and amenities of the resort. It’s an impressive 9,400 square foot modern oasis built of natural stone and wood indigenous to the region. It’s accessible by private boat, golf cart and foot or bike bath. Guests of the villa arrive via their private dock and are greeted by their dedicated staff, which includes a culinary team, personal butler and housekeepers.

Celebrity guests:

Jessica Alba recently vacationed at Rosewood Mayakoba and stayed in Casa Laguna with her two daughters, Honor and Haven, her husband, Cash Warren, and her parents.

Your personal favorite:

Suite 420

Beacause…

Our Deluxe Overwater Suite is my favorite as it’s suspended out over the water of our large natural lagoon with complete privacy, with no other suites in sight. You can look out over the lagoon from the infinity edge plunge pool of your suite and watch birds fly by, sunning themselves in the mangroves and nesting in the late afternoon 20 yards from your suite.

Fun fact:

Rosewood Mayakoba has an on-property biologist as well as a Stargazing Story Teller. The resort is dedicated to combining family vacations with cultural travel experiences. Rosewood Mayakoba has Rose Buds, a fun and educational program that is designed to provide young guests with special services, amenities and programming. Other unique activities offered include yoga classes, EcoBingo, pizza and cookie making classes, and Spanish and Mayan lessons.  At night, the Stargazing Story Teller narrates ancient Mayan myths that expose children to the indigenous culture of Riviera Maya.
