Drink DuJour: The Yellow Bird

The Half Moon, a RockResort in Rose Hall, Jamaica which has played host to such celebrity clientele as the Kennedys, Audrey Hepburn and Prince Harry, just turned 60. And what better way celebrate than with a retro-chic cocktail? In honor of their anniversary, the Half Moon has decided to bring back a drink that was on their original 1954 menu. The mix of flavors includes banana, coffee and orange juice—think: breakfast in a glass—and is a punchy, tropical take on ‘50s resort nostalgia.

If you’re ready to travel back in time, grab your ingredients and get started!

Yellow Bird

1 1/4 oz Jamaican Gold Rum
1/4 oz Crème de Bananes
1/4 oz Blue Mountain Mist Coffee Liqueur
3 oz Orange juice
Dash of lime juice

Add all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice cubes. Take a Pilsner glass and rub the rim of it with a wedge of orange. Then, using a glass rimmer, spin it with colored sugar. Pour in the drink.

Garnish with an orange wheel with skewered banana that has been dusted with colored sugar, a cantaloupe ball and honeydew ball. Add one ice cube made from 1/4 oz coffee liqueur mixed with orange juice.
