The Weekender: Atlantic City

Atlantic City used to have a reputation for being a less glamorous version of Las Vegas. With the incredible amenities of the Borgata and the new installation of The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City[1], this once overlooked casino strip is starting to come alive. Getting to the seaside destination is now easier than ever. New Yorker’s can skip the dreaded Garden State Parkway traffic and take a quick Blade Helicopter[2]. Coming from another destination? The Borgata has its own 30-seat private jet[3] that will usher you to your destination.

Where to Stay:

The sound of slot machines ringing can be a bit jarring if you are on your way to a relaxing weekend away. Luckily, the Borgata[4] has a little something for everyone. If playing blackjack into the wee hours of the night doesn’t sound like your speed, book a room in the Borgata’s Water Club Hotel[5] for a true escape from the wild nightlife. The 800-room tower serves guests a more boutique approach with a calm check in and ambient lighting. You won’t find a casino within the Water Club, but just a walk down the hall brings you to the Borgata’s famed casino and nightlife.

The newly constructed Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City[6] is another great option for top notch accommodations. Enjoy the lively casino, catch a show from one of the numerous venues on property, or hit up the property’s new Rock Spa & Salon[7] for a day of relaxation.

Where to Eat:

Residing within the walls of the Borgata are a handful of award-winning restaurants helmed by celebrity chefs[8]. Craving sushi? Grab a bite at Izakaya[9], the Borgata’s resident Japanese style eatery lead by Chef Michael Schulson. For a heartier meal, try Wolfgang Puck’s American Grill [10]where a wood fire oven is always aflame serving up delicious dishes. A comfort food meal that will really stick to your ribs can be found at Chef Michael Symon’s Angeline Restaurant[11] where handmade pasta and classic Italian dishes pair beautifully with the bold cocktail menu.

If you feel like stretching your legs a bit, enjoy the private dining room overlooking the ocean at Amada[12]. The Spanish style tapas restaurant originally rooted in Philadelphia has recently taken up residence on Atlantic City’s boardwalk. Dock’s Oyster Bar[13] is a classic Atlantic City eatery boasting fresh seafood and seaside dining.

What to Do:

After a night of gambling, the last thing you want to do is see another craps table. Enjoy an afternoon cocktail at one of the Borgata’s elegant pools[14]. After your sun nap, book a treatment at the spa to streamline that relaxation. In the evening, grab tickets to a concert at the hotel’s intimate 2,500 seat venue. Artists like Miranda Lambert and Aerosmith are regulars at the Borgata Event Center. If you’re feeling a little wild after a full day of relaxing, let loose at Premier Club’s VIP lounge.
