As a former research biologist, it’s no wonder that expert mixologist Eben Klemm focuses on technique when it comes to his cocktails. These days, he’s shaking things up at The W Downtown Living Room Bar and Terrace, the Financial District’s cozy outdoor space boasting unobstructed views of downtown Manhattan. Since sipping on a cocktail outdoors is all the rave in the summertime, Klemm’s drink combines the perfect elements for a beverage that’s best enjoyed on a sprawling terrace.
“I was thinking of some of the classic mint swizzles from the Caribbean and whiskey and lemonades—and how nice it would be to combine the two,” explains Klemm. “The stone fruit liquor really helps to bridge the gap, creating the perfect drink to sip on outdoors.”

THE TERRACE SWIZZLE
2 ounces golden rum
1/4 apricot brandy
1 ounce lime juice
1/2 ounce green tea syrup
2 dashes celery bitters
Combine all ingredients in a shaker and serve.
