Waldorf Astoria’s renowned chefs joined together with five James Beard Foundation Rising Star Semi-Finalists in a competition to create the brand’s next iconic dish. Michelin-starred chefs Pierre Gagnaire, Heinz Beck and brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, as well as Master Chef Jimmy Schmidt and Master Chef Jan van Dyk, teamed up with the Rising Stars to bring these ultimate meals to life in the course of an evening.
The event was held in the beautiful Starlight Lounge at Waldorf Astoria New York[1] and was hosted by NBC’s Lauren Scala. Although five incredible dishes were served, only one could come out on top. Master Chef Heinz Beck and James Beard’s David Posey took home the gold with their Celery Risotto Alla Waldorf. The dish was topped with the perfect balance of apple and hazelnut—a spin on the classic Waldorf salad. To add a little kick, the chefs garnished it with shavings of fresh black truffle.
If you’re feeling bold, you can try recreating the winning dish[2] at home, along with the other four dishes presented in the competition. Bon appétit!
