If you haven’t made it out to Williamsburg[1]’s The Heyward[2], now’s the time to go. The buzzing neighborhood joint offers delicious Southern-inspired dishes and creative drinks to pair with them. This season, try the fiery Ploughman’s Elixir, a strong scotch cocktail that seamlessly blends Byrrh with the exotic taste of Ancho Chili Liqueur and chocolate bitters.

“It’s something you’d imagine drinking in an old gentlemen’s bar,” co-owner Christopher Brandon says. “A spiced up version of a very classic flavor.”

PLOUGHMAN’S ELIXIR

2 oz. Scotch
¾ oz. Ancho Reyes Chili Liquer
½ oz. Byrrh
2 Dashes chocolate bitters
1 Orange twist

Stir ingredients together and serve in a coupe glass.
